For example, for me, I just like cars that look cool and do well. Dumb reason I know ^_^ , but because of that I like lots of drivers: Earnhardt, Gordon, Stewart, Newman, the 32 car (the Tide thing ROCKS!) and Jarret.

Is it family loyalty or what?

Became a Harvick fan back in 2000. It was his rookie year in the Busch series, and I have been behind him 129% ever since.

I blame it all on my hubby. ;)
One of our first dates was to the drag races --- never saw the races, was in the pits with the crew. In the early 70s, hubby and bro-in-law, built engines and cars for a driver --- track champions 4 yrs. straight. Was hooked on racing.

In 1979, saw my first NASCAR race --- the 500 --- and fell for the skinny, long-haired, hard-driving man I still miss.

I follow drivers --- not teams or make of cars.

TRL, like you, I like the drivers or personalities as it were first. I guess you could say that in some ways I was born into racing. When I was a child, my father and another guy owned an old Hudson Teraplane and raced in Oklahoma back in the early 50's. Dad also always listened to the Indy 500 each year and I just copied what dad did. That led to my interests in racing and while today I favor Cup racing overall, I'll take anything with an engine from boat racing to swamp buggies. :D

A guy I was dating in the early 80's got me hooked on Nascar, Rusty Wallace was my first guy !!!!

Then the 90's rolled around and so did Jeff Gordon, he is such an awesome driver and he was put on my fave list ... along with Rusty.

Today, I enjoy watching and pulling for several drivers but Jeff and Rusty are my main guys.

My ex-boyfriend got me watching Nascar, but I didn't have a favorite driver untill I saw Jamie McMurray win. After that I was Hooked! No one else in my family watches Nascar.

1. He's Southern.
2. He drives a Ford.
3. He's a helluva nice guy. Met him a few years ago at Bristol.
4. He ain't a brat like most other young drivers seem to be.

Elliott Sadler in case anyone hasn't put it together yet... :p

Before jeff was my favorite, I didnt really have one. I liked several drivers but not any particular order. Jeff was winning alot, which I like my driver to do lol. Im not a huge chevy fan, but at the time dodge wasn't in the sport and I have always despised ford, so his manufacturer didnt bother me really. Then alot of nascar fans started talking mess about him everywhere I went, calling him names etc etc. This just made me like him more.Sooo Eventually I just saw him as my favorite driver.

I have been watching the races/football ever since I can remember with my dad, and we have always cheered for the same teams (49ers, A's, Giants). I remember crying after the 49ers lost the 1993 NFC championship to the Cowboys, I was about six years old and was heartbroken. Our Nascar driver had always been Ernie Irvan, driving the yellow #4 Kodak car. After Ernie got hurt at Michigan (I think it was '93 or '94) we needed a new driver to pull for. Jeff Gordon is originally from the Bay Area, so I guess we naturally started cheering for him.

I used to pull for the V car - M Martin when I started watching NASCAR. After a while I saw a really talented driver who happened to be from the same state where I was born, Texas. Now I am a diehard Bobby Labonte fan. :waver:

As an auto mechanic for many years. I always knew who Dale Earnhardt was but never had any real strong interest in it. then here came a friend of mine in 1990 who was a real strong Mark Martin fan, and worked at a shop up the street, and on monday mornings would always stop by to give me a hard time about how my guy did in the race the day before (Dale Earnhardt). he would say things like " your guy (being Earnhardt) might have won 3 plate races this year but that don't mean nothing. I started really watching ( my guy )and at that point and was forever hooked. and haven't missed a race since. Dale Earnhardt was the most amazing driver that I have ever seen. his timing with the media was pretty good to.
I really miss Dale Earnhardt
I will say, so sorry to all the Earnhardt haters ahead of time and tell them to save their breath because I won't be reading their negative comments

My dad started taking me to the drag races when I was still in a playpen. He's a Ford guy, so I'm a Ford girl. We went to the stock car races on Saturday nights and the drags on Sunday. I was turned into a "speed junkie" from the cradle. Being from Ohio, I didn't have the chance to go to any live races until I was an adult and could do it on my own, it was too far for the family to travel and my mom hates racing. I got lucky and met a man that loves racing as much as I do. Now we have begun to brainwash our children!

My favorite drivers are Kasey Kahne, Jermey Mayfield, Brain Vickers, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Terry Labonte, Blake Fleese, Kyle Busch, Boston Reid...

I follow Hendrick Motorsports since i was little.. They are having a rough year this year with the death of Papa Joe Hendrick and now Ricky Hendrick, John Hendrick, Randy Dorton and Rick's two Nieces.

I followed Evernham Motorsports when he left Hendricks and when he made Evernham Motorsports.

I follow Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon thru there rankings from Sprint Cars, and all the others thry Dodge Weekley Series, ASA, Arca, Busch North Series..

:( I still can't believe we lost members from one of the best race teams in Nascar History :(

Mark Martin- in the words of my dad "because he's the man" and he's just a good guy.
Carl Edwards- how can you not like a guy who is genuinely happy just to be there? Plus the whole backflip thing is just cool. I wonder what will happen when he wins a cup race...
Brian Vickers- he's just plain talented. And once he starts to get the good stuff, he'll be even better.
Then there are the rest of the Ford guys and Hermie Sadler. and on occassion Tony, and then there's *rambles on about pretty much everyone else out there that doesn't drive a Dodge  :p *

My dad got me hooked in the early 80's. I'd sit around and watch with him and my grandpa. They were DW fans but for some reason I chose Elliott. During the dark ages of Elliotts career, I got into an argument with a guy on 4m about weather or not Jeff Gordon was a good racer or not. I didn't really like him but I knew he was really talanted. That was the year he won his fourth championship. I found myself cheering for him just to spite this guy and have been a fan ever since, though my loyalties always remained with awsome Bill. When Bill retired I kept on rooting for the #9 and am now glad that I did. I root for Mayfield just because he is Kaseys teamate.

My first favorite driver was Davey Allison, I'm from Alabama, had to cheer for the Alabama Gang. After he died, I didn't know who else to cheer for, so I stuck with his car. I cheered for Ernie Irvan up until his 2nd hard crash and he retired. Once again I didn't know who else to cheer for so I stuck with the car. Along comes Schrader, and he has been my favorite driver since. He may never win another race, but I still think he's the greatest driver ever. The way I became a fan of Brian is very similar. I was watching a truck race, and heard them talking about a guy only a few years older than me, which I thought was pretty cool. A few weeks later he wins his first truck race at Kansas. The next year he moves to the Busch series, gets injured in a crash, and retires at the age of 22. He hires Brian to drive his cars, and I figured if he was good enough for him, he was good enough for me. Thanks Ricky for hiring Brian. :lilangel:

I started as an Alabama Gang fan too with Red Farmer way back as a kid. An in-law of Dad's managed BIR at the Birmingham fairgrounds in the late 60's through most of the 70's and it gave me a chance to meet some of the original Alabama drivers. I sorta went from Red(#97) and his driving expolits to Bobby Allison, Neil Bonnett and later Davey.

Always a Ford guy, I also had a particular liking for Bill Elliott and later Mark Martin and eventually that Big-Eared Driving Sensation(The best wheel man currently in the sport,IMHO) that ALSO sports the fabled #97.

At times my liking for a particular driver has extended beyond brand loyalty as I am pretty fond of Jeff and Ward Burton even though they drive those off-brand cars.

:p

I'm a long-time Chevy fan,but I do like Rusty Wallace and Kurt Busch even though They drive those off-brand vehichles. :D

I also pull for all HMS drivers, and for Jerry Nadeau(started with His HMS days),Jaime McMurray and Kasey Kahne, just because They are so talented.

Can't say that I'm a fan of Theirs, but I respect the heck out of Bobby Labonte and Mark Martin as well.

My fave driver though is Jeff Gordon  :D .I wasn't even watching NASCAR in early 1998,but had just gotten the 1998 NASCAR video game,I started always picking the #24 car to drive, guess the bright colors stood out for Me.I finally clicked on the stat page to find out more about this driver which I found intriging and so watched a race and watched Jeff Gordon in particular and I was hooked from about mid-1998 season, only very sad that I missed His 1995 and 1997 Championship years completely. :(
When David Pearson was asked which current driver most reminded Him of Himself,He replied Jeff Gordon, referring to the clever type of driver that David was, that was very high praise IMHO,and of course was dead-on.
He's a very articulate spokesperson also.
I later found out about all of the charity work that Jeff(along with most other drivers)does and was most impressed with all of the time and effort taht He devotes to bone marrow and other causes ;)
I also like Jeff Gordon because of all the negative BS directed at Him from(IMHO)some fans that are jealous of His success amd the way that Jeff handles the adversity. ^_^

My Dad was a drag racer for a long time. He even won a couple of Super Chevy Shows and was in the magazine back in the late 80's. He raced at Sear's Point, which some may know now as Infineon raceway. When Days of Thunder came out, my dad happened to own an EXXON and we got some free tickets to the second Sears race to see the Exxon car. At the time, I liked Davey Allison and Alan Kulwicki, Davey because he drove the Texaco car (which is what my dad's station used to be before EXXON bought it and my dad's drag sponsor as well). I liked Alan because of his name, and the number on his car, which was my favorite number. Of course, we all know what happened. So I gave up on it because everyone I liked seem to die a tragic death.
Around a year and a half ago, I was watching a race with my dad, I guess it was sears point again and I asked, "Who's going to win?" and he told me about the road course specialists and all that. I thought he said that Robby was a "ringer" so I decided to cheer for him, since none have ever won. Of course, I was wrong about the "ringer" but he did manage to win. So I got kind of fired up and started checking into him as a racer and person and I found out that I liked what I saw.
As for Kyle Busch, I thought he seemed like a nice guy and was surprised when I saw him start to perform so well.
Leffler, I started liking after he took over Sprague's 0 car last year for a few races.
