I know that sounds like a stupid question but think about it a minute. How do you really feel about them? This thread may not go anywhere but I'm asking anyway.

I feel like Kurt is a friend.
I feel protective of him.

If Kurt would ever stop driving. I don't think I would have another driver.
I know, I know, I'm dumb but that is just how I feel.

Its easy to feel like you really know these guys.... basically watch them race and take interviews for 75% of yr for 15-20 yrs each. Social media emergence has amplified this also.

I think Jimmie Johnson is a nice guy, got a straight head on his shoulders and is a good family man.

I have three favorite drivers that I follow for the good, bad, and ugly. But I'm not a fanatic, I don't own any memorabilia of my drivers. If one was to retire I'd promote one of the half dozen other drivers I like. I'm not a one-driver nation, it's more fun to watch a race when you can cheer for more than one driver.

I have to ask, how does Kurt feel like a friend?
Do you know him personally?
What year did you graduate college?

I am 62 years old and have (2) true friends. Yeah I got a bunch of good time charlies around, but, only (2) that if I needed a 50 pound bag of nickels at three AM in the morning I could call either of them and they would make it happen, no questions asked and they I.

Now the answer to your question: Matt Kenseth is my driver and I pull for him every week because I really like his driving style. Other than that, I like a lot of the drivers. Be easier to list the ones I don't like.

I can't answer for lisa, but I've always felt like my drivers were my friends. No, not the kind of friend I could call if I needed bail money --- but since
I follow their careers closely, knowing their wives' names and children (if they have them), girlfriends' names, I feel like they could be a neighbor and a friend.

I've met a few drivers, but never to really talk to them because they are so busy.

Funny how people view things from different perspectives, and boy howdy is that a good thing.

I view them (Nascar and the drivers) as employees in a service industry. I pay my dollars IE: To Go to the race, get cable or a dish to watch the race and be entertained. When they do not entertain me anymore I will take my discretionary funds and spend them somewhere else. But never would I ever in a million years think of them as a friend any more than I would think of my favorite baseball or football player as a "Friend" of any kind.

I guess he feels like a friend because I care about him. I only want the best for him.
Nope.
I am in college now but I am 47 years old.
I could never look at my driver at simply an employee in a service industry. TRL is right, we are just different.

Happy with my driver, he still gets out and races pretty hard and drives in all three series which I really appreciate. Most folks dislike him so thats all the more reason I support him, he pisses people off.................... I like that

He does some like a cool dude. He's got a lot more of a personality then people give him credit for.

Was mighty cool and friendly when I met him, thats all that matters to me

NOT dumb at all, not even close

I generally couldn't care less about them and how they are in real life. I like a lot of the drivers I like based on their on track abilities.

I like all of my TRD powered Toyota Camry drivers, but my favorite is the antithesis of political correctness, and doesn't give **** 1 about what you think, and he has won two in a row for me at Fontana. I love that. Any Toyota win is huge, but there is something special when that guy crosses the line. I get a little bit nuts.

I have my one main driver, but will cheer on any first time winner. First time winners excite me and they tend to be most appreciative of their sucess on that first win.
I have a few drivers, that I have had the pleasure of actually having a true conversation with over the years. They are not what I would call a friend, but the time with them was quite friendly. The closest would be the time John Force gave me a big bear hug and kissed my cheak, just because I told him I had been a diehard fan since way back when he couldn't buy a win. That kinda freaked me out.
Speaking of a bag of nickels, I paid my bill at a car dealership with 45 lbs of them one time. The owner flipped out, called the cops cursed me a blue streak right in front of the cops. One cop asked me if I would at least roll them up, told him no I had just got done unrolling them into the two bags. Cop laughed and slapped me on the back and told me it would be best if I just drove off. Needless to say I never had an dealings with him after that.

I like that Joey is always happy.. until he's not lol... always smiling and likeable but when the helmet goes on he's a racer through and through. Proud of what he's been able to accomplish the past couple years after what went on the years prior.

I followed Kenny Wallace in the Bud Car 25 for a long time. Family works at Budweiser, he is from St Louis and so am I. Until I met Dale Sr. Followed him until that tragic day. Dale Jr was a kid then hanging in the garages he asked me one day if I wanted a Dale E autograph and joking I said yes because I knew Sr was out fishing. He grabbed a napkin an wrote Dale E across the front with a tiny Jr under it. He told me that would be worth money someday. I framed it and have hung it on my wall all these years. I still like Kenny, but I have a soft place in my heart for Jr.

He's not in a Toyota anymore, so it's not in my DNA to root for him, but you know how much respect I have for what he has become. He is really a badass right now, and when I see him coming, it's like, "Oh ****!" The douchebag talking heads always talk about Joey in terms of JGR throwing him out the door. Didn't happen that way. Home Depot decided they didn't like him anymore, and they dumped him. Sponsorship is everything. Ask Danica. Happy for you Sliced. You had a great year, and many more to look forward to. I might add that you are a passionate and classy poster, and I like that. Thank you.

I usually root for a few different drivers, but i also have one i pull for just a little more. This year i chose the whole SHR team...and it paid off with a championship. I'm still waiting for my trophy to arrive at my door step...but it is the holiday season and shipping can be a little slow.:D

It's funny that I appreciate Matt Kenseth because he's who I wish I acted like when the chips were down.

But to be honest, I'm much more like Paul Tracy. Patience is not a great quality of mine.

I definitely was happy for Tony when Kevin won the championship. You could see the emotion he felt. My heart goes out to him- he's been through so much the past 2 years and he's trying to get back to his new normal. I'm hoping these 2 surgeries will help and 2015 will be a good year for him and his teammates. Go Smoke!!!

I root for Matt Kenseth because of his driving style and dry wit. I'm also influenced by having been in attendance for a few of him milestone moments.

But I'm not going to stop watching racing when he quits. There are several other drivers I enjoy watching just as much, and there's a bumper crop of talented guys on their way up.

I often fret about the end of Matt's career. I'd like to go next gen with Ross but if he's not good enough, I guess Kyle Larson would be the most obvious choice. I tend to root for the ones I saw on the small scale short tracks. Saw Matt come up through the Wisconsin short track world and saw Kyle come up through the sprint car world. I've been lucky to live so close to Knoxville the past couple years.

For me it's driving ability, and a take no prisoners attitude. I also like guys with an open wheel and sprint car background.

Too neutral, not enough assertiveness to really be a top contender. Menard is a good driver, but he can be very much invisible at times. When the car is on, so is he. The man has also improved quite a bit with RCR.

Also, I think Biffle is a bit over the cliff. I really think the move to MWR would have done him some good. I think if Roush had slightly better equipment to sqeak in the top 16. Just imagine what Greg could
