I used to get music from napster, but ran scared when all that legal stuff started, so I stopped..never checked out itunes.......
don't buy cd's anymore cause of the same thing lappy said..for just one or two good songs, ..we have so many cd's anyway......
so when we want music, turn on the radio, stereo.......even our digital tv music channels from time to time.....or internet.....thats how we get it now... :D

mostly buy cd's...but i've been titling and looking under pepsi bottles and using itunes lately...(it's pretty easy to pick winners.... :o )

but i usually prefer to actually have the cd...

I download songs from Kazaa for my laptop just to listen to while typing as radio stations seem to be getting worse (too many adds). But as I could only pick on of the options and I have heaps & heaps of CD's and still buy them, so yeah. :)

I get em from Kazaa, however, until the RIAA jumped in, I downloaded less and less. Still, damn the consequences whatever they may be. :D

i use winmx, they havent said that it inperticular was illegal yet, so until then, im downloading away

I get my music the ol fashioned way... git out my guitar n' play it :o

As a music lover and collector, I buy 99% of the music I have either online or in a store. It might be a used CD store, but the artist has already earned their royalty off it. I had a Napster, then my machine froze up completely. Later I got it again, and even more viruses and nasty stuff started coursing through the puter. I hooked the puter to my stereo tuner (didn't have a burner back then), taped off the stuff I wanted, dumped the whole mess again, reformatted the machine again, and vowed never to fall for that nonsense again.

I don't buy a CD but once in a blue moon. But when I hear a song I really like I buy the CD.

Even if you dont like getting into anything illegal, I dont understand buying a cd. I have never nor have I knew anyone that has liked every song on a cd. Get itunes pay for each song you want, then put them on a cd, mp3 player, whatever.

Nice to meet you, smack. I have hundreds of CDs that I honestly like every song on. Maybe it's because I don't try to buy this week's hip new crack addict or whatever.

AC/DC - Back In Black
Aerosmith - Rocks
KISS - Rock And Roll Over
Every Mother's Nightmare - Wake Up Screaming
Judas Priest - British Steel
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Texas Flood
Rhino Bucket - Get Used To It
Tora Tora - Surprise Attack
Led Zeppelin - IV
Molly Hatchet - Beatin' The Odds
Alice Cooper - Trash
Kenny Wayne Shepherd - Trouble Is...

That's just a few. I could go on and on and on.

Note that none of those are best ofs, greatest hits, live, or anything of the sort. Just regular releases.

Maybe it just means that quality music stands the test of time a little better than what gets crammed down consumers' throats these days.

Oh, and just some FYI. If you don't pay for the music, the artist makes no money. If the artist makes no money, they get dumped by the label, and there IS no more music from that artist. Seems like the least a fan could do is pay for what they get. But that's just me.

I really enjoy most on your list EMP! Add Beatles please!

I listen to all types of music including, Rock (old and new), alternative, techno, rap,R&B,and some country. Some bands I listen to even include acdc, guns and roses, aerosmith, black sabbath, metallica, pink floyd. Dont just presume things.

You dont have to buy a cd at the store to pay for the music. If you check out itunes, napster (new legal version), or even walmart now you pay for each song and the artist get there cut. Also even if you like the whole cd, theres benefits from downloading. Dont have to drive to the store and waste gas, save money (most of time), way more of a selection, and most of the time better quality.

Again, I see no reason to buy cds at the store, and if you buy from online stores most likely its even going to cost you more money for shipping.

And of course, you have the added expense of driving to the same store to buy blank CDs to burn stuff onto. So the gas is a wash. By the time I pay a buck a song and buy blanks and keep upgrading software to insure compatibility, I'd be better off taking myself down to the friendly neighborhood new and used store and making my haul. When there are well over 150 titles you want and have yet to get around to owning, you can be pretty sure you'll find more than enough selection. I order the hard to get ones individually.

Plus, if my hard drive ever gets fried, my music collection remains safe.

Plus, I get the liner notes and the cover art. Matters to me.

And if you are trying to say that every song you download you pay for, you're the only one I've ever met that can. We both know what happens.

I buy most cd's on ebay. Most of my cd colection I already bought new on cassette over the years. To save the high cost of buying 100's of cd's of stuff I already bought on tape, I started buying a lot on ebay and half.com. There are a lot of people who buy new cd's, burn them once and then resell tham on ebay or half.com. I haven't really seen the difference in 'new' or 'used a few times'. Once I play it once it is used anyway.

And as EMP said, the artist already got their cut the first time. ;)

Can't. Don't own a note of music by The Beatles.

How can that be true? Anytime you duplicate something, especially something that is "transmitted" (yeah, you are transmitting when you send anything over the internet) you will loose quality..........something is always lost in the process. Plus whats to say you didn't get a "flawed" copy in the first place? What's the "return" policy for the merchandise you downloaded? And any guarantees for you purchase? I would never download music that I had to pay for over purchasing from a store........just for those two reasons alone.

And maybe you can see no reason to buy CD's at a brick and mortar store, but what about that high school senior trying to get a little date money for his/hers prom? Or that college freshman trying to get a little cash for that 75 dollar text book? I can see a lot of reasons one might choose to purchase something in a store.

I buy cds at stores. I couldn't even begin to tell you how to get them off the internet...
