How do you know when you've had too much snow?
When somebody in your area builds a 4 room igloo complete with a big screen tv.
CHARDON, OH -- This 'cool' project started out with a huge pile of snow that needed to be cleared after a storm on New Year's Day. Now that pile has morphed into the largest igloo in Geauga County, if not the entire state of Ohio.
"Watch your head," cautions Jim Grey as he gives a tour to visitors. The entry doorway is low, but after walking into the igloo, the space opens around you. There are four rooms in this ice house that is 25 feet long and 25 feet wide.
"The living room is about 7 foot by 9 foot wide with a ceiling about 6 foot tall," says Grey adding, "and wait till you see the big part of this man-cave."
The entertainment room is 7 feet wide and 16 ft long with a flat screen television, huge sound system, strobe lights and an Ohio State University football jersey on one wall.
"Well, I have to confess that when he took my cable from the garage and said he was going to put his tv in there, I was a little bit surprised," said Grey.
He added, "I must admit that it's pretty darn impressive."
Jim's neighbors, A.J. Fay and Russell King helped construct the big igloo which took almost six weeks to build.
"It's pretty sweet," said Fay, adding "it's pretty cool to see a little pile of snow grow into a full size igloo you can stand up in."
Russell King put down the remote control for the television and said, "this is something you don't do very many times in a lifetime."
25-year-old Grey lost his job a few months ago and admits that he took on the project for something to keep occupied. "But now it's gotten so big that everybody stops to take pictures," said Grey.
"Everybody loves it," said Grey, "talk about the perfect place to chill. Ha."
