Jr. Running top 5 nearly all day, even late in the race. On the last GWC, he just drops back and ends up 13th.

Has he completely lost the will to win?

I don't think so. He and Tony were behind Biffle on the 2nd restart. The Biff just didn't get a good start, so the whole outside was bottled up. On the last restart, Dale was on the inside line and other than Jamie and Harvick, the line just didn't go.

maybe it's psychological and deep down he doesn't want to pull the trigger for whatever reason. he obviously can drive but just isn't able to finish strong. he seemed satisfied with where he finished. uhh, no jr, 13th wasn't a satisfactory ending for a strong car that wasn't damaged and could seem to go to the front any time he wanted to. he should have been upset imo.

But everyone else in the line passed him. He lost the spots on his own.

Believe me, I like Jr, like him a lot and want to see him do well, but his finishes are just getting worse and worse.

After fighting and scratching to stay in or near the top five all day, Jr. decided he had enough and lifted. Complete lack of will and desire indeed.:sarcasm:

Did you even watch the same race everyone else did?

On the last GWC, Jr chose the bottom lane to run in, and no one went with him. If you don't have drafting help, you get left behind at Talladega. I'd hardly call that "losing the will to win."

In the post race interview, he even said he picked the wrong lane to run in and everyone else went high. It happens sometimes at the Super Speedways.

But it's been happening to Jr for 2 years now. He'll run really good all day, only to fall back when it comes money time. Like I said, I really would like to see him run well, but lately he just seem to want it come the end of the race.

Oh believe me I know. But the plate tracks are just a crap shoot. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

But what's important is that he's finishing consistantly. He's 8th in points, with 1 pole, 1 top five, and 3 top tens.

Well, I guess I am a Junior apologist, so here we go.

I have nothing to say, but disappointing.
Happy for Harvick, glad JG and JJ wrecked out!

On other tracks I can understand the complaint but on a plate track there are too many variables to assume Jr lost his will to win because he dropped off. Daytona and Dega are just tracks where the slightest wrong guess of who to get behind or in front of can get you stuck mid pack for a while, especially toward the end when everyone is blocking. I never fault anyone for running bad at a plate track if they finish with their car in one piece. The way I look at it is if a driver can finish the race on the lead lap then they did a good job. Thats just me.

I'm not a Jr fun but I do have to say that it was pretty cool seeing Waltrip and Jr hook up out front of everyone for a while. Anyone seen a picture posted anywhere of that?

The guys eighth in points so I have a tough time complaining about that. He's got an average finish of 13.3. That's 10 positions better than last years average. His starting position average is 9th right now. That's 13 positions better than last year. I have a much easier time rooting for him as my driver than my beloved Pittsburgh Pirates who have lost 7 straight games by a combined score of 72-12. Now, that's a bad set of #'s!

Geezzz.I'm sure this thread is just a bit of Junior bashing. Why is everyone taking it so seriously. No driver at this level wouldn't give his right arm to win a race.

Everyone seems to be completely misunderstanding the point of my post. It's not, and never was, meant as a Jr bash. I like the guy, and really, really want to see him win a race. I want to shut the Jr bashers up.

Sure, he's 8th in points, he's had a couple top 10s. But the top-10s he had, he was in contention to win...up until it counted. And week after week, he seems to find a way to to from a win contender to nothing more than (barely) a top-10 right as the race is winding down.

Again not meant to bash. Maybe it's just my frustratation speaking, but it's getting old.

It is really kind of hard to see exactly what your point is. Jr is doing very well this year. He is 8th in points and ran a good race at Dega. He got stuck on the restart behind some cars that didn't go, but still had a decent finish.

I took the gist of this thread to be that DEJr has trouble closing the deal after being a contender in many races - a fact that is backed up by stats rather than opinion.

The problem seems to be that any post which portrays him in any way other than the god some seem to think he is, is considered bashing.

For a driver to receive the adoration which he does and who drives the best equipment in Nascar and still can't win, of course someone's going to wonder about what's going on.

Earnhardt's no more untouchable than Biffle, Harvick, Hornish or any of the other 42 out there each week.

Oh please, noone is accusing Matt Kenseth of not being able to close and he isn't winning. When there are forty three cars in the race , forty two of them can't close out the deal. It's not a question of how people lose ,it's that only one can win.Mostly it's just luck.

Exactly my point, thank you.

I guess I'm just not understanding the point of this thread then. I thought the question simply was, has Jr. lost his will to win? How can that be based on anything other than opinion?

Like some other ones have mentioned before, he is running a lot better this year compared to last. I think by the end of the year Dale will visit victory lane as a winner, and will be into the chase. Championship teams aren't built over night, and I think Dale and his team are headed in the right direction.

I guess that the same holds true for Gordon, Kenseth, Edwards, and Kyle this year, they must have lost their ability to close. And lets not forget JPM, he has been near the front many times but doesn't win. Maybe he doesn't have the desire. :D

Thanks for proving my point, guys.

Although I fail to see how attacking other drivers defends any one driver.
