How does this happen?

Kurt doesn't get the 43. Instead they go with a vanilla average guy.

This doesn't add up. I thought RPM wanted to win.

What could James Finch possibly offer Kurt that RPM could not?

See post #8 in the "Kurt Busch to Phoenix Racing" thread. Finch team is a sleeper, just add money and you will run up front.

Kurt said he wanted to be with a smaller team to make it "fun" again. He turned down RPM's offer.

I would imagine the bigger teams are a lot more strict and have a lot more "corporate feel" to them than the smaller teams.

Finch brings good race cars to the track. Kurt could look like a stud if he wins2-3 races and runs up front in that car, bringing his stock back up a little. I think it's a great move. If it don't work, Kurt will vanish into obscurity as the only good rides left(Gibbs, Childress, Hendrick) want blink a eye at Kurt leaving only lower level Ganassi and start and park teams to pick up on him.

I think Kurt is a good driver, but he needs a little tude adjustment. To quote a line from water boy,"something is wrong with his medulla oblingata".

In his time Richard Petty was without question the greatest ambassador the sport has ever seen but have you ever talked to anyone who used to work for him?

I'm thinking that a conflict of personality between Richard and Kurt could have been a factor. But, that's just me. :D

I think RPM wanted Kurt for one reason, to hold Bestbuy. Now they can't guarantee a full season, and Finch can. I also think Finche's attitude of 'forget points, just win' attitude is what Kurt was looking for.

talked to anyone? Nope but I don't think there's many owners around that'll put up with his potty mouth and berating of the team especially when it's coming over the air during a race.

I have serious doubts he'll make the full season in that seat.

Exactly. Petty is tough on his employees and that is common knowledge in the garage area. He and Kurt would have killed each other.

Kurt says he wants to make racing fun again and I say go for it. Finch is used to construction workers in his other business so he can handle the potty mouth, rude behavior and such and will give it directly back to Kurt when he dishes it. I'm sure that Hendrick with supply them with the goods, much like SHR and we will be seeing more of Phoenix racing in the front.

Here's hoping that we see the 51 and the 78 at the head of the line. I don't care for Dumbo much - but it would be awesome to see some independents competing for victories in 2012! And I like young Mr. Smith!

I think that it makes more sense with Finch anyway. There isn't really a downside . Pretty much anything above 3oth would be seen as a gain and it would be fun to see where they can take it . Petty is run by suits . I think that making the chase would be expected and that might not be attainable given the equipment . That leaves little upside and lots of downside . Again..keeping Best Buy was the number one objective and that didn't happen.

So who is going to be the brains behind the operation? Who's the Crew Chief, and is he worth a hill of beans?

Otherwise 2012 is going to be a long year of "Kurt Busch, Radio Sweetheart", with Jimmie Spencer on Speed every Tuesday. :owquitit:

not only is he gonna need a proven winning crewcheif he's gonna need a top ten pitcrew, even if he gets that car in the top 15 every race he gonna lose alot of spots in the pits if he has a so-so pitcrew

Yep, and Kurt's a guy who kirks out when he loses two spots in the pits.

Remember the guy that operated the bleeper for MTV during The Osbournes?

I think NASCAR might need to hire him for Kurt.
