Fireball's hero was always Red Byron, winner of Nascar's first race on Daytona Beach and th first Nascar points champion in 1949.
When Roberts started racing, he requested Red's old number #22.
Nascar complied and that is where th great Glenn Fireball Roberts got his number!
Th Red Byron, now where have i heard that name before?
LOL!

Interesting also is that Fireball carried the number around with him to different teams. I know he had it when driving for both Smokey and when he drove a Holman Moody car.

Now that's cool.........abooja, nice car!:satisfied

Nice die cast. I'm a tad young to have seen Fireball race, but my dad was a fan of his and has told me a lot about him, plus I have seen a couple of old home movies of him racing. He was something else.
