Those black n white fuel injected 57 Chevys were called Black Widows, made by the wink from Chevy (The Automobile Manufactures Association prepared a resolution to stop all participation in racing. This was brought on by pressure from congress. GM endorsed this on May 23, 1957).using a dummy company "Southern Engineering and Development Company" because factory participation was outlawed. The days of "stock" cars were already gone by that time. Most of the parts you couldn't buy stock, and the car never rolled off of a production line.

* In 1957 congressional hearings were conducted about stock car racing. They claimed the automakers racing advertisements were contributing to racing and reckless driving on the road. During February 1957, the Automobile Manufactures Association prepared a resolution suggesting all manufactures stop auto racing activities, and that type of advertising, including the support of private racers.

Kinda scary that racing can be outlawed with a stroke of a pen on paper.

Let's get a Dale Blaney in the #2, racing Holtgraver in the #45 in the mix today.
