For sure TalladegaI recognize most of the names. And based on Elliot's speed I think it was for the Talladega race.
Kinda a sad the last place qualifier was 18 mph faster than the recent pole winner
And before liability insurance premiums went through the roof. This was before the restrictor plate.
Same. My grandfather had one of those "contact aliens" size satellite dishes and he got NASCAR on ESPN while our broke arses had the antenna on the roof. I remember watching BA flip into crowd at his house. (Which led to godforsaken plates)1986 Winston 500. B.A took the win while Elliott blew an engine and finished 24th. Of note, Alan Kulwicki, Mark Martin and Davey Allison DNQ'd. I believe this race was on ESPN. If so, I likely watched it at my grandparent's house because our neighborhood didn't get cable until 1990.
On his second Q lap, right? First had pole anyway didn't it?oh yeah, they was nuts back then.. I remember when Cale turned his car into a plane without wings at Daytona about that that year.
I remember going to Charlotte one year circa 1992 and this dude had a shirt that said "I remember when s*x was safe and racing was dangerous." My 15 year old mind giggled immaturely. And before liability insurance premiums went through the roof.
Unrestricted, today they would be 230Kinda a sad the last place qualifier was 18 mph faster than the recent pole winner
Bill was leading then blew up. Bobby Allison held off Dale Earnhardt for the win. Dale made his move down the back stretch on the last lap on Bobby and then squeezed Bobby up High against the wall but Bobby never lifted and passed him back off of 4 and won. Fantastic race, Earnhardt after the race in his interview was asked why he couldnt make the pass and he said " you know that was Bobby Allison right? "I don't recall the specifics of that race but I'm sure I would have been watching it.

There was cable service as close as a quarter mile from us in three directions, but because the one mile section of road where we live only had a handful of house on it, Comcast wouldn't bring it done our road. Finally enough of our far wealthier neighbors complained enough and here came the cable.Same. 1983 Daytona 500 pole day. First outing for the new Monte Carlo SS, version one with the notch back window. Cale turned 201 on his first lap and stop watches indicated lap two might be about 203 when the Hardees Chevrolet became an airplane. Ricky Rudd in the RCR Piedmont Chevy inherited the pole by default. Cale won the race in his backup Pontiac LeMans, which may have been the same car Benny Parsons did 200 at Talladega the year before. On his second Q lap, right? First had pole anyway didn't it?

Ronnie was an independent out of Virginia, he was a regular on the circuit.Remember every name, except Ronnie Thomas...can't quite pick up on him.

I believe his back up was a show car that had on display over at a Hardees. Usually when they hit show car status they are put out to pasture, obsolete. Now its a museum piece with a Daytona 500 win. New fans of the sport or those who came in when we had pit road speed limits need to watch some videos when we didnt have them, its insane.I remember it as well as no pit road speed limits.
Here ya go guys, enjoy Bob Jenkins and Larry Nuber calling the last 6 laps of that race, I remember it like it was yesterday, just badassery all around
Well, they had extra body styles. The GM cars all had Chevy engines long before this race...It was more fun when GM had those extra manufacturers.
