Same for me but won't be surprised if he gets more. What is the record for poles in one year? And who holds it? Anyone know?

He already has 2 this year so I am going with the 5-7!!

That's a great question,I'd like to know the answer to that one Myself!
I do know that Jeff Gordon had a career high 8 poles in 1995 in Winston Cup Series, also set a record(still stands) of 11 poles in 1992 in the Busch Series!Wish I had a more complete answer to Ur question though!

I went with 8-10. I thought about 5-7, but he already has two so I went with the higher answer. I believe it is quite possible he will get 8 poles or more this year.

I too would really like to know what the record is. It is an interesting question.

I chose 2-4 but now I think I should have picked 5-7.

I think he will do better on poles this year, and starting positions, but I think the switch will hurt him in the points this year. I dont think he will make a serious run for the championship until next year.

Dont know if its the record, but didn't bill elliot get 11 poles in 1985

Thank you smack!I had already typed in the fact that Bill had won 11 poles in '85 and then decided to check the 'official'Nascar source for that year.....where Bill was listed with excactly ZERO poles.I didnt think my memory was that far off....but deleted the reply anyway.Glad you confirmed it,I thought I was going nuts for a while there. :)

Moral of the story:Never trust the offical Nascar press guide! That thing is just too inaccurate.

11 is alot, I don't think Newman will beat that this year.

11 is even more astounding when you consider that the schedule was only 28 races long that year; in other words, he won the pole for 39.3% of the races. Rusty's 9 poles are impressive, but they came in a 34 race schedule, which is a rate of 26.5%. Those numbers don't even discount any races where qualifying may have been rained out.

I say 5-7.. i think hes got it in him. but i think elliot's record will stand for a while still.
