How much free advertising are you?

How much free advertising do you give away daily? Do you have the name of your car dealer on the rear of your car? When you're at the races, do you wear a t-shirt with your favorite driver and his sponsor on it? If you look around at just about everything, you have paid to advertise instead of being paid to advertise. Even the brand of your product probably is displayed and that too is an ad. Take off those stickers from your car dealer and if you don't take off the manufacturer's logo, you still will be advertising. Of course this isn't anything that is new and in fact is so normal that most people don't even think about it.

Next time you buy a car, new or used, tell the seller to remove his sticker or give you something in return, such as oil changes etc. You just might find yourself being paid to keep that sticker on your car.

I always remove the dealer sticker from my cars.

When I go to a race, yes, I wear my driver's shirt. LOL

However, none of my ordinary/every day clothing has a logo or visible name.

There's a Hyundai dealer in Chicago that places their web address on the back window of every car they sell. It takes up the entire length of the window. The only way to get it off was to scrape it with a razor blade. They eventually relented to consumer pressure, and stopped putting these ads on their cars.

Although this is nothing new, it is an interesting point to bring up on a racing website. All forms of motorsport revolve around advertising. From sponsors, to driver merchandise. Just think of how deeply engrained this is to the sport.

In Formula 1 the Marlboro brand is so iconic that they can get away with just putting the barcode on Ferrari's cars to get around bans on cigarette advertising.

Although I don't agree with personal advertising, it's nearly impossible to avoid in the modern world. If you buy a shirt from someplace like Old Navy, their logo is likely on the front. Just try to buy a pair of jeans that doesn't have a patch on the back with the brand logo. Even when you go grocery shopping, the store logo is on the bags you bring home.
 
A friend worked at a dealership in Mass and he got me a great deal on my wifes '92 Bonneville. Only because of his work on my behalf in getting the deal I signed the paper giving the Ok for them to put the decal on the car. Repeat, they asked and I Ok'd the sticker to be put on. Supposedly it's a Mass law.
I've never had a dealer offer any incentive to me to become a mobile billboard.

My last "Officially licensed Na$car" item is a Dale Sr coffee cup that says 7 time champ given to me Christmas '94.

I'll buy a T or a hat out of the trunk of a local racers car to help them financially. The france family has more then enough.
 
Quite frnakly, it really doesn't bother me. So there's a sticker or a license plate frame on the back of my car that says "downtown chevy" or whatever. The shirt that I'm wearing says izod.
If those things start to bug me, I think it's time to take a look at my priorities.
