How NOT to run a track

Opening day was 3 weeks ago yesterday, got rain half way thru. Ticket stubs are good for next Saturday night. Come Saturday and it was rained out. This past Saturday the stubs are rejected as "they're 2 weeks old, only good for the following week plus you saw practice, the heats and half of the first feature" (of 5 scheduled) Lots of PO'd people.

This past Saturday it was a crash fest. It was then announced that you can no longer bring in a lawn chair, they'll rent you one. No bags or coolers of any type, no water, soda, chips or sammiches can be brought in. "We have concessions stands". 15 minutes in line for a burger on a still frozen bun ($5.00). No condiments.

They repainted the old bleachers seats, too bad the paint didn't fully dry. People walking around with paint on their butts.
Track doesn't want to hear it, if you call to complain they hang up.

Just got a call from a team I support. I was told don't bother going this Saturday as they and more than half the regular cars won't be there.

You talking about Seekonk? Heard that they pissed off a lot of teams and fans. Go to Stafford or Thompson, both run class operations most if not all the time. Difference is night and day between some of these small tracks that have no clue how to put on a show.

Yes, Seekonk. Run by the same family since 1946 and each year we say they can't possible get any greedier, yet they do.
I really like Waterford yet this may be their last year, facing bankruptcy. Thompson takes "our" upper level cars but doesn't care for the entry streeters etc.
Stafford is a great place, but you have to pack a lunch to get there from here. A lot of cars come from SE Mass and that's going to be a hellova tow.

I have to win the lottery and buy Seekonk, get back to honest racing and treating racers and fans fairly.:beerbang:

I couldn't believe the concession prices at the dragstrip this year.

$7 for a Cheeseburger and $5 for a thing of fries... WTF? :eek2:

8 bucks at Daytona, 6 bucks for a beer. Dayum, no wonder I come back broke,,,,,,:D

Sounds to me like they are looking for a reason to close and sell the property.

There you go, only been there once with my dad a long time ago back in the late 60s.

The only short tracks that i've been to that i recall having this policy were Motor Mile(Radford,Va) and Toledo. Toledo has really low food prices though, Motor Mile doesn't though. I brought all my food in my pockets. I don't buy food from tracks that try to force me to buy overpriced food. I'd rather give my money to a track that doesn't have rules about not bringing in outside food and has fair pricing on the food.

Went to Motor Mile only once and that was some years ago. I understand that they are getting the most car counts of most tracks in the south so they must be doing something right. I do feel that they can run the fans away with their policies and that is what's been happening with Concord Motor Speedway. A week ago, there were only four cars for the late model feature race. It's a shame a track like that is going to the dogs. We are lucky that most of the tracks we attend don't have such policies with the exception of Concord. But we go to Bowman Gray Stadium most every Saturday night and the only thing we can't bring in is alcohol. Otherwise, you can bring in eats and drinks and whatever else you so desire, and the concession stands are still always full of people. Of course, when you have an average of over 15,000 for the racing, it takes care of itself.

Potomac has decent concession prices - and they let you bring your own food or drinks.

I don't know what the policy is at ODS but I always bring my own food there since I have to drive through Manassas and past 1,000 drive-thrus to get there.

ODS is a terrible track to work with though. I like everyone there and I love the track, and I have a blast every time I go there - but they don't have their **** together at all. Communications and management, among other things, are a cluster****.

Old Dominion Speedway

Car counts are down from 27 to 10.

Fans aren't showing up anymore. Drivers are pissed off. Most of them ain't seen any of their winnings all year. Drivers I work with are running Shenandoah (3 hours drive) and South Boston (5 hour drive) now.

Someone please give me the $2 million so I can show them that ANYONE could do a better job running that track than the are!!!
