A Dallas mother is in custody after putting her baby’s life at risk in an attempt to prevent her car from being repossessed, police said.

Krystal Gardner Shortly before 4 p.m. Monday, a man seeking to repossess the 2001 Ford Expedition of 28-year-old Krystal Gardner arrived at her home in the 10000 block of Landsdowne Drive in southeast Dallas, police said.

As the repo man, Luke Ross, was backing out of the driveway, Gardner tossed her 1-year-old child through an open window into the back seat of the moving sport utility vehicle, according to police reports. State law prevents vehicles from being repossessed if someone is inside.

When Ross saw the infant in the back seat, he immediately put the car in park and began to get out, the reports say. Then, police say, a 15-year-old boy armed with a 12-gauge shotgun came out of the house and fired one round into the air and another at Ross, striking him in the leg.

Ross, who ultimately repossessed the vehicle, suffered minor injuries in the shooting.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after and arrested Gardner and the teen, who was identified as Jessie Reyna. Both were charged with aggravated assault.

Gardner also faces a charge of endangering a child and several outstanding traffic warrants. She was being held on about $4,000 bail.

The case has been referred to Child Protective Services, which will decide what actions to take regarding the treatment of the infant.

It's still against the law here.Sad thing is it seems to happen alot between teachers and students.Every couple weeks it seems there is a teacher getting caught.

The status and whereabouts of Gardner’s baby are not known. Child Protective Services said they did not take custody of the child and had no comment about the case.

Am I the only 1 disturbed by this?

I had dreams of that happening to me on a pretty regular basis when I was in school. Never happened to me though. Only one guy who I knew was getting busy with a teacher was a guy named Dan who was tagging the health teacher. She was the one that taught us about condoms and such. Apparently he was getting a little more sex education than the rest of us. I thought it was great at the time and I was pretty jealous. She was really hot. Now, it disturbs me when I hear about it.

this has been going on for years but you hear about it a lot more now because of how quickly news spreads via internet and hundreds of tv stations (maybe 50 you watch somewhat) on cable. when i was a kid there was no internet and the news was very limited on tv and local newspaper. we had a 6th grade teacher that basically got run out of town for getting much too involved with one of his students. same thing happened with the local methodist preacher. i felt bad for the preacher's daughter because she was a great girl and also in my class. the wife and kids stayed, no idea where the preacher went. and this happened in a town of 640 people. not a whole lot you can keep quiet in a town of that size.
