Going to BrickYard 400 this year. Can anyone buy a Pit Pass? If so where?
Im sure you probably have to know someone or have the right connections but just curious.

Thanks!

Your best bet is to call the track. Some tracks will sell pit passes, others won't.

Keep in mind, there is a difference between a pit pass and a garage pass.

I called the track and they said you have to get them from Nascar? I think maybe you have to know someone high up on the list at this track maybe?

Can you give more info on a garage pass? Hows it work and prices?

Thanks!

I got my 3 day pit pass when I bought my tickets for Fontana. They've already come in the mail, just sitting here waiting for Laborday weekend. :D

IMO, pit passes are a waste of money. We bought them for the Daytona 500 earlier this year and all you got to do was stand around the grassy area in front of pit road, and watch the opening ceremonies and such. You had to actually buy another pass (in addtion to the $75 pit pass) to even have a chance of being remotley close to the drivers for possible autographs or pics. It may not be that way everywhere, but for us it was wasted money (especially when we were assured we would have access to much more by the ticket agent-all of whom told the same thing to hundreds of peole because there was a pretty good sized crowd of ticked off people when they/we all realized that all we got to do was stand in the grass). Make sure you ask exactly what it is you will get access too before you pull the trigger.

CART (or whatever it's called these days) has it all over Nascar for fan access. You can stand right next to them while the work on their cars and actually meet every driver if you wanted too!

Then again how big is Cart these days?? ^_^ I got a pit pass for PPIR a few years ago during the Busch weekend, it was ok , not really worth the money. I think during practice and qualifying it was the best because my buddy and I could walk around the infield area and watch the cars entering the turns from a totally different perspective. The garage pass is the one you really want, very hard to get unless you are involved with Nascar either indirectly or directly. By that i mean connected to a sponsor, working for a company that has connections , that sort of thing. I don't think you can buy garage passes, but i could be wrong on that, i know different rules apply for different tracks.

i don't know how they work the races, but i went to a free practice session for irl at fontana and it was awesome. you could go everywhere...literally, i could have driven my car onto the racetrack, but i'm sure that wouldn't have been a good idea. the fans that showed up were being very respectful of the drivers and crews during the testing, i'm sure partially because all the drivers were going to sign autographs after the practice was over...but several people went right up and talked to some of the crew members when their car was on the track.

it was really total access...one thing that surprised the heck out of me is that i was able to go right onto the pit wall, lean over it, and take pictures of the cars as they were coming towards their pits, without any security giving me a second look...as i said, i could have done anything, drive onto the track, run across it, smash millions of dollars worth of testing equipment (geez, i sure do have a destructive side, glad it doesn't control my body, lol) and nobody would have been able to stop me until after i had done the deed.

oh...the point is...it was awesome to have that much access, even if it was only testing.

Thanks for the replys everyone. Just trying to feel things out before going. Leaveing Friday or Saturday and staying the weekend. Im thinking of going Saturday to the track for qualifying and maybe bettering my odds for good pictures and autographs?

Again this is my first time going so not sure what to expect. Also I see there having a free concert raceing morning. This should be interresting.

What I think sucks is you have to pay something like $35.00 extra on race day if you want the pass to leave the track and get back in during the whole day.

Qualifying would most likely be the best for pics and the increased possibility of getting an autograph as the crowds are usually fairly small.

Too bad NASCAR doesn't take a cue from IRL/CART/NHRA and have some more fan interaction with the people we've made millionares!

NHRA is probably the best out of all motorsports for this. At the spring nationals a few months ago, I was standing right next to John Force, got to shake his hand and got an autograph. Then walked down the pits and got blasted in the face with a wall of noise from one of the top-fuel dragsters getting tuned up between heats....about 2 feet away!

Oh, after perusing the Indy raceway website, doesn't seem like they offer pit passes. You might want to call the ticket office and find out if they even have them.

there's a big difference between cup and nhra...like over 100,000 additional people.

i don't know what the number of fans interested in going to the pits is compared to the number of fans that go to drag races, but you can bet that there would be so many people in the pits they couldn't even hold the race if nascare would allow as much access as other series do.

I was simply contrasting the fact that just about all the other racing organizations have much better fan access then Nascar. The CART events that were held in Houston easily drew around 100,000 people. Attendance at this years NHRA event was around 80,000 for the weekend. Not everyone is interested in getting pit access, but those that do and pay a premium for it should really get more than just the ability to stand by in front of pit road before the race with little chance to see anything other than driver introductions. I've only attended 7 races, but other than the occasional appearance at a team hauler (that usually last an hour at the most) or appearances at sponsor tents, you really have next to no chance at meeting your favorite driver.
