Those cars were huge and ran on bias-ply tires. How would Rowdy, Jimmie Johnson, and Junior run if they had to race these cars?

Oh for sure

The racing would be GREAT! The limits today are the cars themselves...not the drivers. There would be new fans coming out of the woodworks.
Betsy:rolleyes:

There are very few, if any, of today's drivers that could drive that car.
Drivers like Cale, Buddy Baker, David Pearson and other were big strong men, not like the smallish thin drivers of today.

BTW, looks like that pic was taken at North Wilkesboro. Holly Farms, bought by Tyson, was based there.

LOL, Jimmy Spencer could drive it.:D

You guys are bad........ but you make me laugh! :D I guess that makes me bad too, huh? LOL ;)

LOL Gotta love it!!!!! And I agree; some of todays "wimpy" drivers couldn't wrestle that hunk around a track for 400 miles.

Compared to this other Junior Johnson Chevy that Monte Carlo of Cale's practically drove its self. LOL But before you count out those "little guys" on size alone, I've got two words for you- Rex White.

yeah but pops........ Rex could pick up an engine block byhimself.......lol. He was a forerunner to Mark Martin.......lol

as for how would the drivers of today do???? well, I think the radio chatter would be liminted to the first 50 miles..... they would whine, then be too tired to yap anymore.....
Some drivers would be able to perform better than others, in short races, But I think we would be seein new drivers comin in. Bigger, older and a heck of alot tougher than what we have now. who knows, somebody might even hire Mike Skinner to comeback........lol But the drivers that would shine, I think would be Kyle Bush..... he has tons of talent, he would just ave to get in better shape...... Mark Martin, yea he's older, but in waaaay better condition than most of the new guys and can drive. Clint Bower and Carl Edwards...... both wrestle those late models.......
I think the ones who would really struggle would be Gordon, Johnson, Earnhardt, Kahne, and a host of others......

No doubt Kyle Busch could drive them no problem. You can put him in any car or truck and he can race it well.

I think Junior would do fine, he has a lot of footage of his dad to look back on and study. Kyle Busch in case you haven't noticed is not that small, he would do the best, he can adapt to any car. Best talent I have seen since probably Geoff Bodine coming up running the Mods in the North East back in the late 60s - early 70s. The other young guns like Newman, Kahne, and Kurt Busch might struggle at the begining, but I feel they would be able to hang for 500 mmiles.

Most of todays drivers, if not all, would not last 100 miles if they were driving in the pre-power steering and cool suit days.

The driver of that Apache Stove car was none other than Mark Martin- not exactly a heavyweight!;)

You're right about that list son, but I think you might mean Larry Frank about that engine thing. Somwhere Ralph Moody is still laughing at John Holman about that 427 Larry rode out with in the back of his station wagon.
