Sleeping peacefully at about 6:00 am this morning and we hear a huge bang and the whole apartment is shaking. We jump up and go look out onto the street.

It's a one way street and someone was going the wrong way, crashed their car and barrell rolled it end over end all along the row of cars parked on the street.

I was the first one outside as Julie called 911 and there was a single girl inside the car (which was on it's hood at this point) banging against the window trying to smash it out. I managed to pull the door open and she climbed out, extremely beaten up, obviously without a seatbelt.

How she lived is beyond me, the street is a disaster area, looks like a demolition derby parking lot. There is a line of smashed up cars outside my building right now. Don't they say, though, that you have a better chance of surviving a horrible accident if you're drunk because your body doesn't stiffen up?

Needless to say we're both a little stunned today.

That was quite a shock to you guys. Hopefully, everyone is ok. Thank goodness you didn't witness the driver in any manner other than ok. Hope your vehicles weren't involved.

Oh my, that is drama - and not in a good way. :mygawd: It's a good thing nobody was in those parked cars at the time. And I hope that girl is prosecuted. She'll have to pay dearly too, because I doubt any insurance company covers a row of demolished cars - she'll probably get dropped.

Wow. I'm glad you were able to help her out there, Paul. I'm glad the girl was alright, too.

wow, that is drama..........oh my goodness........glad she is ok, but I have no mercy for drunk drivers.....:(

She didn't smell of alchohol...which was strange...plus it being 6am. When they were running the plates of the car she was from a town about 150 miles away...maybe she was tired and lost...but she had to be going pretty fast to roll it like she did. But to survive this wreck without a seatbelt...man.

The worst thing about it all, that still has me a bit shaken up was that I opened the rear driver's side door first and saw a baby seat...and there was a small child's jacket on the floor (the roof actually) and I thought it was a dead child...I touched the coat and saw there was nothing there.

Really shaken up today...that girl must be even worse so I'm in no place to be complaining.

Paul, I'm glad you and Julie were there to help her.

I'm thankful that no one was seriously hurt. Really grateful that there was no child involved.

You and Julie stick close together today and comfort each other.

Man what a way to star off the morning!! I used to live at an intersection where wrecks became just part of ordainary life. I have seen a few bad ones. One that sticks out is there is a tree at the corner and some how a lady had the car in the tree, kinda like a ladder leaning against a house the car was leading against the tree. It was very odd.
glad that everyone was mostly ok, and good thing that the jacket was not a child.

One early Sunday morn about 6-7 yrs ago I headed over to my brothers house to help move a big screen.

While waiting in the middle turn lane to turn left I watched as this buick centrury just drifted to the right , up the burb catch some air and hit a guy standing at the bus stop right at the hip line, full speed(about 40mph). Flung him about 100 ft into a used car lot, her car riding up a telephone pole guy wire on the corner.

I jumped out check the victim, heard the death gurgle, threw up, went to the car and jerked the woman out of the car because I thout it was on fire under the hood. She was very confused and disoriented, I immedialtly assumed she was drunk.

Turns out she was on way home from pulling a double shift at the police dispatch station, fell asleep at the wheel. No charges were ever filed against her. In fact it never made the news either.

I was pissed this could happen, went to the local news to find out what they could find out. They could find NO official account this incident ever happened. The counter girl at the convience store on the corner knew the man and about where he lived. Channel 2 went door to door and finally found the mans home and talked to the family.

They ran a story about the coverup, the result? Major shakeup in the police dept, several firings, revamp of the dispatchers workload. STILL no charges though, 6 months later.

Sorry for the graphic description, but it helps to tell it that way for me, I had nightmares for about a year over this.

Don't even really know why I post this, just reminded me about this with the first post and felt compelled to post my experience I guess.

Rambling over.

Gee Paul, I hope you and Julie are feeling better tonight! What a terrible thing.
I have witnessed some really horrific accidents but fortunately nothing fatal.
Here are some Angels for you and Julie, sleep well and I hope tomorrow is better for you both!

Hope you and julie have a better day tommorow, glad you were there to help though.

My sister woke up to a guy slamming his classic Corvette Stingray under her Monte Carlo a few years back. That guy was drunk and walked away unharmed. Both cars were totaled.
