Nope, without looking up all the years I know that both Terry Labonte and Dale Earnhardt were in the top ten in 1979.
Dale was ROTY and 7th in the WC points and Terry was 10th in the WC points chase.

What would be funny is if Jimmie Johnson won the Winston Cup title and Ryan Newman won rookie of the year. I know its highly unlikely Jimmie will win it, but you never know.
