interesting tidbit,
the 48 won 3 of the first 5 races this year then the wing went away and they have struggled to finish in the top 5 at any track, wonder what they knew about the wing that the rest didn't ??

makes you wonder if the wing had any influence on at least 1 or more championships ( can't remember how long they ran the wing)

When they switched to the COT, they had a little bit of a tough time adjusting. But once they figured it out, they were hard to beat.

My guess to Johnson's struggles are the other teams have stepped up their programs and the brush-ups with Gordon got under his skin a little and it's taken away from the focus. I am certainly not writing off Johnson yet. I thought he has little chance of winning the Cup a couple of years ago and he caught fire in The Chase and won it again. Until he's mathematically eliminated, I'm not writing him off.

Racing without the wing might make a difference, but remember way back when the series switched from bias ply tires to radials, ol' Ironhead had a hard time figuring it out. But once he did, it was Katie bar the door. Johnson has had some bad luck which comes around to all of the teams now and then. Remember it was Richard Petty who said when asked if he would rather be lucky or good, "Lucky". Jimmie still is a major factor in the races, but other teams, like the Gibbs teams, have caught fire and seem to be dominant. Hamlin seems to be invincible right now, but keep in mind that it wasn't that many years ago that Kasey Kahne won the most races yet still didn't make the Chase. The "regular season" is just past half way and it's now time to see who has what to make the chase. Jimmie, Chad and company still have lots of time to work out their kinks.

buck, I remember well the struggles Big E had with the new radials.

And I miss the old bias ply tires in a way. Leaning on them in the corners produced squeals and smoke. LOL

I think they are just sandbaging. They were dominant with the old spoiler and the wing. This new spoiler isn't much different than the old, other than it's teamed up with the splitter on the front.I don't think that's enough to stump Chad. They are well within striking distance of winning this thing.

Yep.

Reminds me of when JJ wasn't hot in 2008 and Shrub won every race. I think Jimmie's letting the #11 team show their cards now and they're taking notes.

Jimmie doesn't historically get red hot until Indianapolis.

Wow, so Jimmy is intentionally not winning . He's , what , faking them out , messing with them, setting them up ? Wonder what Lowes thinks about that?Pretty happy to be running back in the pack I bet.

Sittin' 6th in points and inside the Chase is "running back of the pack"? I think a lot of sponsors would be happy to be "running back of the pack" like that.

Jimmie has been stuck on 50. I think Rusty Wallace was stuck on 50 for a few years. Let's hope Jimmie follows Rusty :)

I think that the Gibbs cars have just gotten a lot better than last year. Now I'm still going with JJ to win the title because as long as he's in the top 12 he's gotta be the favorite. I hope none of the other drivers are counting the #48 out because that will be a huge mistake.
