I hate the Yankees. But as a boy I read about and admired Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth, Bill Dickey Yogi Berra and Mickie Mantle.
However from 1975 until present I have been a Red Sox fan. Carlton Fisk was the catcher,in 75, Rico Petrocelli or Butch Hobson was at third, Rick Burleson was the shortstop, Jerry Remy was at 2nd base, Cecil Fielder may have been at first, Yaz covered the Green Monster or LF, hot shot rookie Fred Lynn was in CF, Dwight Evans was in RF with a killer arm and Jim Rice was the DH
Luis Tiant was the pitching ace, and Bernie Carbo was a great pinch hitter. I still respect Bill Buckner too.
I only wanted the Yankees to win twice in all of these years. The first time was after their great catcher Thurmon Monson was killed in plane crash in 1979. While I joke often I seriously respected Monson. Anyone who is student of baseball history should respect Monson, and in all my years of Yankee hating he is the one I respected most, Jeter would be the other one I would consider with respect.
That brings us to to tonight, I am glad that Feces Sabaitha and the Yanks beat the Oreos. After a certain poster Crowed locifoursly over Baltimores lame duck role as a spoiler in eliminating my Red Sox last year, I realized the Yankees were more tolerable. Now that the the Orioles are done, I hope the yanks lose their next four in a row.
But again I am VERY VERY happy that Baltimore is done. They lost ha ha ha.
Last of all Cal Ripken never was in Gehrig's class, he is a dwarf in comparison, Lou was and is still the Iron Man.
