A Fort Worth grandfather had a frightening afternoon Wednesday when his truck was stolen with his grandson inside.

Fort Worth police said the man left his truck running with his 2-year-old grandson inside when he went into a Speedy Cash on the city's north side.

Police said a man and a woman leaving the business stole the truck with the child still inside, but the pair abandoned the truck at Food City a few blocks away near East Long and Decatur avenues.

The little boy was not hurt, but police said they are still looking for the man and woman who took the truck.

Police do not anticipate filing any citations against the grandfather, saying it was a terrifying learning experience for him.

I simply do not understand parents or grandparents who do not put their child's safety at the forefront of their minds. Leaving your vehicle running with the keys in it while you go anywhere is completely ignorant. Leaving it running in front of a check cashing place is double ignorant. Leaving it running with a child inside is beyond criminally ignorant. Yes, I would have charged him with child endangerment at the very least, since criminal stupidity isn't a crime (although it should be).
