NASCAR decided to turn the championship inside out by creating a 10 race championship called the chase, and it sometimes does make for some exciting competition. We had another close race to the championship shaping up this year. Why go through all that trouble only to risk it all on a plate track where the formula seems to be to race to the back. The there's a wreck, and poof, that great chase may have gone away.

It happened in 2008 when Edwards and Biffle were leading the points by 50 or 60, only to have a wreck knock them out of contention and hand the championship to JJ. The champ is the champ, but we may have missed a great championship battle.

The damage to the point standings wasn't near as big as what we saw in 2008, but why risk it?

Maybe it's time to go to a 12 scoring system for chase drivers just at Talladega, or replace this mess with a road course. I say road course. This sheet metal roulette is a bad joke in the chase.

A road course would be great in the chase.

A road course wouldn't be no different than a plate race. Why give those "road ringers" a chance to ruin someones championship hopes? The road races, like always, would have nothing to lose.

I say lose The Chase and make the entire season count.

I agree. When the championship is decided, lock everyones points and just race the rest of the season for top heavy purses for top 5 finishers. Then we would see some checkers or wreckers racing.

o_O ..you lost me already.

Driving skill will win you a road race. That makes it different. Wrecking out of a road race is fairly rare when compared to the mess we saw.

I think you misunderstood my post. I wasn't talking about a road course ringer winning the race. I was talking about a road course ringer ruining someones shot at the championship by taking them out of the race for no reason because the ringers could care less. Kinda like what Kyle Busch did to Ron Hornaday in the truck series. But then again, the ironic thing is that it was a chaser who ruined the chance for several people this week.

Several. That's the biggest difference between plate and road.

Keep wishing in one hand, just don't do anything in the other hand, it's going to fill up first and you will be upset.

I like what Mark Martin said:

It's gonna be alright, and if it isn't, well, it's gonna be alright.

Except for that hand you keep wishing in.

I joked about that in another thread of all the things NASCAR could do in an effort to tweak the rules even more. Even though I was joking, I can actually see them letting Chase drivers only fighting for points among themselves. It would be another way of artificially keeping the points close.
