I filled out an app on Monster for an Home Health Aide never thinking I'd hear anything about it really but they called me shortly after. I went to their office, took a test and passed, thank goodness. Then they interviewed me and she really seemed to like me so she offered me a job. I accepted. I went for orientation the following day and came home with my head spinning. There is going to be a transition period for paperwork with this job.

They gave me a packet to study and I had to take another test, this one an oral one. I had to show them I knew everything in the packet. The packet was over 30 pages full of information, I didn't know most of it. I had never changed a bed with someone in it, put someone on a bed pan, take temps, take respirations or heartbeats. My current job is working with developmentally disabled individuals but my duties do not include doing anything health related like that. I had to learn a ton of information to learn in a very short period of time with this packet.

I took my test today and I am so proud of myself, I did pretty well. The nurse really helped me a lot. When I didn't know something I simply told her and she helped me work out the answer. I learned a lot just working with her. I am just glad to have that test behind me. Tomorrow, I start training in the field with another Home Health Aide, from noon to 4:30 pm. Wish me luck, I still have a lot to learn.

As someone who had a lot of contact with home health during my husband's illness --- the most valuable assets are compassion and caring.
I think you'll do fine. :)

best wishes an good luck in pursuit of new career! may be tha 1st step in a long rewardin journey.
most of all.....keep ya enthusiasm !

I love helping people, I love the interaction. I also don't like being stuck in one place, I like to work in different places. The paperwork is going to be interesting. I work with people who have Medicare and Medicaid so paperwork is VERY important. I am going to have to learn how to fill out the paperwork properly.

I train today and tomorrow. Wish me luck. :)

Good for you. I went through rehab at home for a few months and my aide was a visiting nurse but to me she was a angel. You'll be doing good work that's rewarding and making a big difference in peoples lives. :lilangel:
