I got summoned for jury duty........

for the week of january 24th..........

has anyone ever served on jury duty, and what was the case?

I served about 8 or 9 years ago, up in marin county (northern california) it was a drunk driving case......pretty interesting, we nailed the woman, she got a stiff fine and some jail time.........only time i have ever served, I have been summoned several times but that was my first time, and quite possibily this might be my second time, first time though in LA county........ :D
 
You might get picked for the Blake murder trial.........it's coming up next month, I think!! :eek:

I think that case is at Van Nuys anyway........ :D nah nah nah.....so there..... :D
 
Been there, done that. It was a civil case and I knew the Judge, Prosecutor, and defendant. Needless to say, I was dismissed from that case but had to stay in the Jury pool until time was up. I read a lot, played cards, did jigsaw puzzels, played chess, and was never called again.
On the up-side, we were paid and compensated for lost wages by our employers.
This was a LOOONG time ago.

Been called twice and sat on a jury once. It was a civil case and we awared the plantif's about $250 grand, but the majority of it went to their doctor. If we could have, we would have made them give all the money to the doctor and had them pay the defendant, but it's a long story.

The wife was called for duty today, but only sat in a court room for about two hours before she was sent home.
 
oh also......back when I served I got a whopping 5 bucks a day......don't know what LA county pays..... :D
 
I think the county has given the jurors a raise............it's about 15 bucks a day!!! :D
 
the best way to get out of jury duty is to walk in and when they call you, admit that you actually know nothing about the case or are familiar with any of the people involved, but that you sure would hate to miss out on your white supremacist/black panther/klan/aluetian supremacist/skinhead meeting. Normally, most will send you straight away from duty. The problem is, you will be followed.
 
I got summoned for jury duty about 2 weeks ago and guess what! I totally forgot about it! It was on a Friday and I worried all weekend, scared to death there would be a bench warrant out for me. I called first thing Monday morning and they said it was cancelled. Thank Goodness! I would love to serve on a jury and hope I get called again soon.

oh no............well i have to send in the paper work within 5 days OR failure to respond to the summons will result in a hearing before a judicial officer, and at that hearing penalties including a possible fine of up to 1.500 may be imposed......
NO THANKS.....I will fill it out today, mail it in and wait till january 24th to see if I have to serve.........I wouldn't mind serving..... :)

Just tell them that you know the person. You belive they did it and he should fry for it. That should do the trick.
