I guess parking a guy for the remainder of a race isn't penalty enough?

I agree. Kurt never should have been punished for his wise assed no-threat to Pockrass. He did deserve a fine for what he did on Sunday.

I agree with Jeff Gluck on this statement
but on the other hand, there are apparently no precedents in NASCAR. Officials just do what they want, whenever they want, with seemingly no consistency from one decision to the next.

Earnhardt Sr did things that "put safety officials in danger". Anyone remember Daytona 1999? They parked him for the remainder of the race, that's penalty enough.

Gluck's going to criticize NASCAR any time the opportunity arises. And half the fans want him penalized solely because his last name's Busch.

What Dale Jr and Jimmie Johnson did was a safety risk and a violation of the rule that a driver must take a mandatory ride in an ambulance to the infield medical center. Why isn't Gluck or anyone else barking and demanding a penalty for that? Of course, because JJ and Junyer aren't Kurt or Kyle Busch.

I'm sick of these quote on quote journalists stirring the pot. Report the what happens in the sport, don't make it happen. Kurt being on probation for that is pretty lame. I did not appreciate what Kurt did on Sunday and if anything it deemed a fine. Not suspension.

Earnhardt finished 2nd in both Daytona races that year but I don't remember what he done.

Because he was still able to drive his car to the finish, so it wasn't mandatory to take that ride with the safety officials.

Oh good lord, really Andy?!?!

Exactly. I guess they could stand around and wait for the next emergancy vehicle to come by and pick them up.

Exactly the reason why we should allow Nascar a little more flexibility in interpreting the rules. No?

Flexibility? I'm still trying to get past the logic they used for determing the finishing order. here's the rules everyone knows.

1) Yellow comes out, slow down but maintian reasonable speed.
2) No passing under yellow.
3) If you maintain reasonable speed, they will put you back in your position if you do get passed.

After watching the #2 car in 4th when the yellow came out get passed by 3 cars, nascar said they wouldn't give him his spot back because he maintained speed while sliding onto the apron. The 2 reporters who responded said they had NEVER heard nascar make that exception before. Those 3 points may have an impact at the end of the year. Meanwhile, they put Denny back because he passed 3 slow cars on his way to the line. WTF?

I suppose it depends on the rule.

Remember last year's Southern 500? People called for KyBu's head after that one - including some now defending the Busch Brothers so ya' never know

Well Fender, it's like this...not every call is going to go Keselowski's way and that goes for every driver out there.

Of course. The question is consistancy, and in this case there wasn't any. They actually could have made a more proper call against Denny, Regan and Kvapil for going too fast to the line so long after the yellow came out.

I guess I'm just not clear on what you're saying.

I don't, however, see how #2 could've been in 4th when the yellow came out #14 was already backwards when Keselowski was still in 20th or so.

No, the yellow came out just after Kez hit and passed Jr. Race hub had the video sync with the lights. Tim Cindric brought an image to the hauler and tried to argue with nascar, but they made up the 'sliding' rule on the spot and put him 7th. He never slows to less than 60 or 70, so it makes no sense to let 3 cars pass him, then send Denny back 3 spots for passing cars that were slower than Kez.

Like what was said earlier it was 1997. Other than Sr. getting back into his car and driving to the pits, how was it similar? Is it how you'd like to remember that moment or is it something you actually saw?

"Dale Earnhandt was racing and lost control and rolled over. when he got into the ambulance he realized all the wheels were still on his car so he asked the track worker to start the car and when it started he said give me my car back. he finished 31st with a fractured shoulder blade."

Seems to me he communicated with the safety crews, and they let him back in the car and KNEW he was going to drive away. It don't think that was the case with Kurt.

No matter what it's compared to or who it's compared to what Kurt did was stupid. He could've gave the medics time to get their equipment and get away from the car. He also could've put his helmet and safety equipment back on. How many times have we seen a car after a wreck catch fire trying to get to the pits or a tire coming apart and taking a side off the car? Plenty. His race was over, take the extra 60 seconds and let the safety workers grab their gear and put your helmet on. You're no Dale Earnhardt;)

Must've been 1997 then. My point remains.

Nice try

This account clearly demonstrates that Dale Sr violated no rules in 97 at Daytona
In fact the safety worker or steward fired the engine up at Dales request.

Their temperament is obviously different Dale was constructive and all about racing. That was his standard a part of winning the championship multiple times. It is also a Gordon or Johnson trademark, when times are tough just dig a little harder, and winning is the best revenge.

Kurts mindset could not be any more different, pout, meltdown, and behave like a nut job.

Funny Earnhardt quote from that article: ''I think Gordon was a little impatient at that point..." with 12 laps to go.

With today's political correctness NA$CAR even would be all over SR. and suppend him too for getting back in the car and driving it around, hell they would even probably park him for the rest of that race.
