"The Superbowl of racing" Crap, NO IT's NOT!! Every time I read, see or hear someone call the aytona 500 "the superbowl of racing" my blood pressure goes up.

I havent heard that alot from the speed guys atleast this year. I mostly hear them call it "The great american race" anymore. Ive heard it acouple times though and it sucks to hear it.

I thinkk I read the phrase in the paper 3 times today, and the posts guy on headline news used it. URGH!

The two events have almost nothing in common. The Super bowl ends the NFL season and decides the champion, the 500 starts the season and pays the same amount of points to win as any of the other races on the schedule. About the only thing the same is the media hype.

If you're not a dedicated race fan it is Super Bowl-esque. It's (arguably) the biggest race of the season. People watch and/or go to this race who don't watch any other race during the year, including celebrities. You hear about it for weeks leading up to it. There is a ton of extra "pre-race" coverage. ... I think it's an accurate comparison for all the the extras that surrond the Daytona 500 event, not for the actual race itself.

yeah, I give people around here a hard time come Superbowl time..... cause after all, it is the DAYTONA of Football.............lol
