This site, and 1 other, I CANNOT access thru my satellite connection. I can go anywhere else, but not here.

I can only get here thru my dial-up. Irritating to say the least.

Ain't outsourcing grand?

Well the good or is it bad news is with the declining value of the dollar you may see less outsourcing. Europeans love coming here as their Euro is worth so much more than back home. We are even experiencing a lesser value compared to Argentina. Canadians are coming across the border to buy their BMWs for $43k rather than paying the $68k at home. Coke stock prices are booming due to their strong sales in foreign markets. So look for adjustment in our wages that may bring back some jobs.

TRL, I think that maybe I have a similar problem. I could not get on the site today, for most of the day, through my high speed connection. :D

BP wouldn't their tax system account for them coming here to make purchases? Where we have an income tax, don't they have a huge sales tax on their purchases?
Thats why it is always bad to say " this other country does it thisaway" and not explain why and how they do it.
Betsy;)

TRL, I'm sure your ISP will help you through this, but it sounds like they are trying to block sites that might be what they think are objectionable. It could be the "-" in the url that is causing the problem.

I hope you get this fixed right away.

I find it hard to believe your isp would be blocking this site. More likely it's a dns problem. I'd first try flushing my dns cache to see if this solved the problem. http://www.updatexp.com/dns-windows-xp.html If not I would try changing my dns server)s). I've been using opendns for over a year and am quite happy with them.. http://www.opendns.com/ I have comcast for an isp but they had serious dns issues a couple of years ago and I gave them the boot and used AT$T dns's. (4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3 etc.). opendns servers are even better IMO though. Good luck :)

Ok, which one of you told them I post on here...

betsy, when the dollar declines in value against the, say, Canadian or British currency it means that their currency is worth more in the U.S. than it was previously. Simply put they get more for their money than they previously received when buying U.S. goods.

Something is definitely wrong. I now have trouble accessing the forum via AOL but have no problem when I use my Bell South high speed. It puzzles me.

TRL, have you tried sending fury an email? (I'm sure you have, just thought I'd ask)

TRL- just got off the phone with hughesnet tech support. Yes, at the odd hour of 3 AM. no long waits, and amazingly enough, the guy spoke reasonable english.

It's a port issue. If you're on hughesnet, go to tools > internet options > LAN settings > connections > only have the 2 boxes in the proxy section checked, set the first box to 192.168.0.1 and set the port to 87. OK all the boxes out and see what happens.

MH, I'm glad you got your connection issues figured out and you're back able to post on here and all but that still doesn't answer your original question...
I have a REALLY strange problem
While I think you are right that you have a really strange problem I'm not sure what it is or how any of us can help you...

TRL, you might get a 514 error if you go to a secure (https) site.

tools > internet options > connections > LAN settings > advanced > uncheck the "use same proxy ...." box, and clear out everythign but the HTTP line. That'll make the error go away.

wow, im gonna have to call HN at midnight more often now...way too easy to get help when it's on their time.

Thanks, again, MH. I'm sure glad you can stay up so late to get all this good stuff done.

BP, I'm the one with the strange problem --- however, I do believe you may out-rank me. ;)

Turns out it may not be fury's fault ---LOL

Looks like we (and by we I mean the sites) got blacklisted along with someone who did something bad...I guess it's kinda like when we block an IP and sometimes that causes a good member to not beable to get in because the IP suddenly becomes theirs instead of the bad user...

fury has identified the specific IP that has been spamming from his "block"...he's gonna let the server company know, he's hoping to be moved to a different "block" to get away from the ban...but doesn't know if they will move him or not.

sound about right to me. Although i thought web servers had static IP addresses, in which case nobody else should have it? Unless the black list is generalized.

RF's IP is 72.9.154.142

if the person's IP was 72.9.56.25, and they were black listed as 72.9.*.* then it would take out RF. So that's probably what happened.

I'm on dialup and wasn't able to get on until about an hour ago.

I believe July 27 was last time I was able to logon.

Nope, July 28th, 8:14 am was your last post. It was about Kyle to JGR.

You're welcome...
;)

Well you won't believe what some people were saying about you. Trust me you don't want to go back and read them. It will really warp how you feel about some of your most trusted friends here.

Oh wait, that was someone else. Were you really not able to get on? ;)

I am on high speed with AT&T and have no problem accessing this site with them. However, I also have AOL on high speed (piggy backed thru AT&T) and cannot access this site on AOL. It is a little troublesome as I have to switch from AOL to AT&T whenever I want to access this site.

Let 'em talk...being at the computer trashing me keeps them off the streets and away from the general public :D

Well one'of'em was supposed to be posting some pics. I guess they can't find a hosting service that will allow that kind tho...

Jeez, I hope my previous career as a Playgirl model/Chip&Dales dancer hasn't come back to bite me.
