The kid drove a hell of a race and he did everything right. He should’ve won the race. But Sammy Smith realized he was driving an Earnhardt number, and did what anybody would do in that situation and took out half the field including himself. But I can respect that. He was going for the win.

Taylor Gray, on the other hand? I lost ALL respect for him. There is NO WAY I would’ve left the race track tonight without knocking Sammy Smith out after wrecking me like that.

In a world of notorious NASCAR fighters like Cale Yarborough, the Allisons, “The Bull” Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch’s jackman, Ricky Stenhouse, and Ty Gibbs…. Taylor Gray decided to be a coward.

He could’ve been immortalized with all the highlights NASCAR would’ve played of him knocking out Sammy Smith. If I’m the owner of the 54 car (Ty Gibbs), I’m taking him out of that car ASAP.

I love your threads but I disagree on this take. Tanner Gray did his job and drove a great race. He was total class.

IMO he had every right to to punch out Smith but that isnt his job. It is a car race not a tough man contest or wrestling match.

I hope racing will always be more about what the skilled drivers can do on the track. I dont watch to see which driver can physically kick the most ass.

I actually agree 100% and if he doesn’t junk him in the coming weeks, other guys will notice and he’ll get run over his entire career.

Kind of hard to do (punch him) when a bunch of people are surrounding Sammy Smith and protecting him.

Sammy should’ve had to catch hands for that. NASCAR needs to let them have at it off track instead of intervening.

Punching somebody accomplishes nothing, gray needs to wreck him next week, bruises heal, points don't reappear.

Moderation is t key. If Taylor Gray goes all Kenseth against Lagano, he would face a suspension, and they can read the telemetry.

The best payback, IMO, needs to leave some doubt about the intent. Make it look like hard racing that just went a little over the edge.

But above all else, Gray has to focus on beating the field, or the other 35 cars. An overall win is always better than satisfying a personal score.

As for anyone else racing Sammy Smith, it would probably make sense to preemptively use him up late in a race, especially on a short track. I hope everyone races him that way. If you happen to be leading a GWC'r restart with him starting P3, you know what he will do.

Why was it okay for Gray to muscle Smith, but not the other way around? I mean on the track.
