I'm taking classes online but I could take a few in person if I wanted to. There is a campus about 40 minutes away. I may take my math classes in person though, I can take those once or twice a week. It's going to be really hard thing for me to do, go to school for 4 years. I transferred from Full Sail University because of the Major at DeVry. It was a broader major.

Wish me luck. :)

You've got it, lisa. I especially wish you luck with the math classes. I made 1 day in a college math class and decided that wasn't for me.

I had to take placement classes before they would let me enter DeVry, TRL. I had to take a math, an algebra, a writing and reading tests. The first time around I flunked the easy math test and passed the algebra test. The second time around, I passed the math test, after major studying, with flying colors. I mean I did really well. The reading and writing tests, I did really well on too, didn't even need to study on those. Math is my weak point. I am still taking a lower math class despite doing very well on the math class.

Best wishes

My son is working to get a degree at home. Sure is a juggling act trying to raise 2 children, work a full time job and go to school. Always got his head buried in the books, but I'm sure it will be worth it when he finishes. Best of luck to you, and hang in there I'm sure you'll get it done.

Thanks everyone, you're all so kind. i'm having trouble getting into my routine this first week. Hopefully that will change quickly.

This first week is kicking my arse. Jennifer is home from college, I'm trying to spend as much time with her as possible plus doing my school work. We need a smilie on here who is pulling her hair out.

I am sick today, my legs are shaking like crap. My arms are better, not so shaky as they were this morning. I don't know if it's nerves or if I might be dehydrated??? I have been trying to drink water all day but I really kind of hate water.

Um....not to be that guy, but you're going to get screwed over, I guarantee it. Devry is a for profit college, and I'm going to assume that by the end of the two years, you're going to be stuck with a $40k bill and non-transferrable credits. Yea, that's the dirty little secret of for profit colleges, their credits do not transfer!! Colleges like UNCC, Harvard, NYU, etc. They have what's known as regional accreditation. Colleges like DeVry, Phoenix, etc. they have national accreditation which is worth as much as a placemat at McDonald's.

My advice: Get out of DeVry and go to a local community college (many of them do offer online classes) for two years and then transfer to a real college. You'll pay less in the long run and get a better education.

I don't want to transfer credits. My major is a four year major and it is Multimedia Design and Development.

Well, my advice still stands, you're not going to get a quality education at DeVry and most employers do not accept degrees from "for profit" colleges.

However, I still wish you the best of luck in your educational endeavors.

I start a new session next week, 2 classes this time. Math 32 and Business 115, I ordered my books today. Hopefully they will get here in a few days. I am excited now but will be super busy with 2 classes. My Busn class is online and my math class is a blended class, online and in person. It is a Wed. night class from 6 pm until 9:40 pm at the Columbus Campus.

I am still waiting on my final grade from my Critical Thinking Class. I should get it next week.

Stay strong Lisa. Keep up the good fight.
It is a tough deal, and there are moments of doubt but keep digging.

To quote a racer/ owner "preparation meets opportunity" Richard Childress.

We dont always know how things will materialize, we just have to keep digging. At the end of the day we at least we know we have done our best.

Disclosure: The quote from RCR is one I remember, I didnt write over 10 years ago or more. I am almost postive of the exact verbiage, just not 100% .

The for profit technology institutions are a mixed bag imo. I agree they are over priced and some people do get exploited.
A student needs to fully or realistically weigh their expectations.

But even with that said, I am going to one of them myself. It was the only way I could manage the work and school schedule.

My wife also is in college a state or "non profit" deal she is taking accounting.
We compare our assignments and both agree that my curriculum is much more challenging. Some of my teachers also teach at other state funded community colleges.

There are scholarships available as well to help with the cost, and my company tution reimbursement program helps too.

All I know is, this first class was really challenging. I am just assuming they are all going to be like that. I know I am not going to be able to sail through my classes. Man, they heap homework on you at DeVry. I am going to have to be smart and organized now that I am taking 2 classes this session.

I passed my Unit 1 Math Test with an 86%. yay!!!!!!! I am still struggle with fraction word problems but overall, I am doing quite well. :partytime

I'll say one thing...don't "shy away" from math...practice it. I was pre-law but was also fairly good at math. I decided against law school and have had a very nice career as a Resource Manager (basically math based). You would be surprised at how many folks can't (or don't want to) do math. You go in to a job interview with your laptop and somewhere along the way they mention math skills and you show them ten key by touch skills and you will get serious consideration...no matter what your major goals are...gotta get your foot in the door.

I knew you could do it, Lisa. The determination and dedication you express here make us all believers in you!!!

Hey Tony. the way that DeVry has it set up, you HAVE to learn the material before moving on to the next chapter. They give you homework assignments and you have to get 80% on them same with the reviews and the tests, everything must be passed with 80%.

One thing I have always liked about math is - it's not subjective - not subject to other people's opinions. You either get it right or you don't...and if you aren't stressed by time (like on a test)...that is actually comforting (to me). I know that even if I can't get the numbers to work the first time - I will eventually. There is nothing magic about mathematics.

I'm not sure why I like it? Maybe because it's a challenge and I think it's kind of fun too.

I flunked my Unit 2 Review last Wednesday in Math. After, doing some serious studying I took it again yesterday and managed to pass it. yay!!!!!! Now I need to study for the Unit 2 Math Test, which I will take on Wednesday.

I have learned so much in this class but there is so much information being thrown at us, so many formulas to know. I have to take this test on Wed. Please say some kind words for me, keep me in your thoughts. I really need it.

best of luck to you lisa, hope you ace it

I passed it!!!!!!! woooo hoooooo :partytime

Now it's onto learning Algebra. I already know some Algebra but I am going to absorb everything they throw at me. You guys are awesome, couldn't have passed my test without your thoughts and prayers. :)

I took my Unit 3 Review last night, got a 91 %. I also took my Unit 3 Test last night and got a 94%. I am so grateful!!!!! Now I am ready to take my Final Exam, which I am going to take next week a week early. If anyone reads this, keep me in your thoughts so that I do well on the Final. :)
