I miss IROC! I'm sure many of you do too. It died because of lack of sponsorship. Hopefully the economy rebounds with the next administration to the point that NASCAR can find a sponsor for IROC again. I'm not going to hold my breath, but at least I can dream...

Don't go there.

Isn't Sprint Cup pretty much the old IROC at this point?

It sure was enlightening to see some of the top drivers in equal equipment

While it was fun to watch, I doubt that NASCAR is looking to garner sponsorship for another series. They have enough to worry about now. Besides, did NASCAR have anything to do with securing sponsorship for that series in the past? I know they ran as companion events but I think that they were a separate entity from NASCAR.

I really enjoyed the IROC series it was the only way could you see the best drivers from all around the world and from different styles of racing competing in Identicaly prepared cars?
IROC was founded by Roger Penske and Les Richter and had No affiliation with NASCAR they paid NASCAR a fee to run as a companion event to NASCAR races. I beleive Pontiac pulling out as a sponsor of the series is what sealed their fate without an automotive brand for support and the limited amount of exposure their schedule gave them along with always being Overshadowed by the NASCAR event they where paired with no other Major sponsors ever stepped up.
What I found great about the series was that the cars where Identicaly prepared, Not just built the same! These cars where set up Identcaly ( Dave Marcis had alot to do with that ) and the drivetrain was tuned to perform identicaly between cars. The drivers where only allowed seat and steering wheel adjustments Nothing Else. Alot of work went into getting the cars not only to perform well but to perform identicaly so that The Drivers where the difference in perfomance.
Watching how some of the best drivers in the world handled this type of racing was truely eye opening even though it favored the oval racers.

The driver who impressed me most in IROC was Steve Kinser, who would have thought a Winged Dirt Sprint car driver would adapt as quickly as he did? very Impressive.

Yep. NASCAR will bail ARCA out before they try to bring IROC back from the dead.

IROC is long gone they sold the shop, equipment, cars and all other asset's way back in 2008.

I can't beleive as a race fan you did'nt enjoy seeing drivers from different series compete together?

I remember the IROC Series from back in the 70s when they ran identical Porsches at Riverside Raceway in SoCal.

I doubt IROC would ever be back. It was fun while it lasted, one of the problems they were having before IROC finally shut down was scheduling. Alot of drivers from other series could never make the races so the fields were half NASCAR drivers & then a few from other series. Initially IROC was a true race of champions, championship racing drivers from NASCAR, CART, F1, Trans Am, IMSA so on & so forth. If i were a millionare with the reasources I would try to find a way to bring it back & they would be racing IROC Camaro's from the 80's as well...
