I've been racing motocross for about 12 years and with my dad's death 2 years ago, my heart just isn't in it anymore. He used to be my support and pit crew. My brother is getting into dirt track racing, because he has some buddies that own car shops and want to build him a car for free. Before you ask, no he won't help me. I think secretly he knows I'd beat him and therefore doesn't want me competing with him. I not only have 12 years of offroad racing on my bike and truck, but I've driven and owned 11 second street cars also, so I have high horsepower experience as well. He on the other hand has neither. I know I'll have a ton to learn, but i'll bet I can pick it up QUICK as I have a knack for reading dirt. I used to be the kid running his stock 88 s10 at 85 miles an hour down the dirt road having a blast.
I'm not against street cars either, but my main problem is I don't really have the money to go out and buy/build a car. I don't have any "official" experience racing cars, but I'd really like to do it.
Do they ever hold open tryouts for amateur racing? I'm in Southern California down the street from Perris Auto Speedway, and that's where my brother will be racing. Is there a way to get into racing by being a good driver? Or do you need to be a good driver with money? Thanks for any feedback.
