ice ice, go away

We've had some power outages around town due to the ice buildup. It didn't get me, but quite a few parts around town were. I have to agree with Mag.........ice, ice go away!

Ice storm III

Rain right now but none of the channel's know what's going to happen. It looks like it'll be all rain here *whew* causing more flooding problems (still better than ice) but it could change to freezing rain or sleet anytime.

Most of the schools are closed because of the expectation that it will turn to ice and they don't want to risk having kids or employees out. Naturallly, Charles County isn't one of those. We don't have any weather alerts here or anythng but no weather alerts were issued before and NOAA had no idea the last two storms were coming.

They think it'll remain rain here but if it does turn to ice, we're in deep doo doo. :(

all local schools were in session yesterday too. I hear from friends, the ice was hell on the buses....as usual.

It's headed our way tonight. They're hoping it's going to warm up enough to be above freezing by 8 AM. Our weather guy said PA is going to get the worst of it.

We got some ice and my power went out for about 2 hours yesterday.

Roads were terrible. The 3 inches of rain turned to ice and black ice when temperatures dipped into the lower 20s.

Now, mind you, Maryland's still in the south where they don't understand snow isn't the only cold weather problem. They decided to open schools on time.

There were dozens of car accidents. Traffic was backed up everywhere. Some of the roads were closed. And did the SHA ever come out to treat the roads? NO!

Someone please remind me why I pay taxes.

The roads are dreadful, the traffic sucks, crime is growing out of control, the schools suck and there's nothing to do.

What purpose does the government serve?

Oh, and the schools? If I had kids, I sure as hell wouldn't trust them with my kids' education after today. They don't understand what happens to standing water when the temperature dips well below freezing (this is elementary school level stuff here), how the hell am I going to trust them with anything else?

/rant off

I work w/ a lady from Port Tobacco. She said the roads were a mess this morning. I had some ice on my roads, but they had atleast sanded them.

Dreadful. Awful. Terrible. Excruciating.

That's just the main roads. I couldn't have imagined the backroads.

oh goodie alberta clipper on the way... ANOTHER friggin' sleet, freezing rain, rain and ice event. Followed by average (meaning at freezing) temperatures.

pssst, it's called winter. has a way of popping up bout this time every year. some say you can avoid the worst of it by moving/visiting the southwest parts of the country. i had my sites set retiring somewhere around albuquerqe but was overruled. you can look forward to that also once you get married. <g>

Andy....My part of the south if it starts to ice and/or snow they cancle or delay school. Olnt the north opens stuff on time.

They cancel school if there's the threat of a 1/2 of snow. But they don't understand that snow isn't the only cold weather problem.

Board of Ed here got A LOT of crap for that yesterday, and they deserved all of it. Every parent, teacher, staff member - EVERYONE was pissed off about that.

By 5am there had already been several accidents due to ice. But, Charles County decided to ignore all that and blew the call anyways.

You'd never be able to survive up here. You'd really have more to complain about, so don't even think about it, OK? LOL :D Seriously, we have some of the highest taxes in the country, we have higher gas prices than most places other than maybe California, and man do we have cold, ice, snow, and still have to go to school and work most of the time. Your cars get full of salt so they rust more and don't let me even start on what we get in the Spring & Summer - like sometimes no Spring or Summer to speak of some years. Oh yeah, and it's humid heat. But - we only get the tail end of hurricanes, rare twisters, and rare earthquakes. We also have some of the most beautiful land you'll ever see. No, it's not all cities. When it's nice here, it's gorgeous - beautiful lakes and scenery, the ocean isn't that far away, but who needs it when you have a Great Lake? ;) Life is trade-offs. Learn to look for the good things and you'll be a hellava lot happier in life.

I'll be happier when I get the hell out of Maryland and in to either Florida or California.

I hate the cold weather so much they'll need to invent a new word for this kind of hate.

For some reason I think then it will be all about the hurricanes, fires, mud slides, earthquakes.......

I have no problem with hurricanes.

I'd rather one or two hurricanes a year and beautiful weather than have 250+ days of rain and single-digit temperatures.

Look for an uptick in the number of hurricanes and especially strong ones for the next several years. The cycle is turning against us, again.

It seems like no one is spared this year. By the end of the week we're supposed to have sub zero temps and wind chills in the -30+ range. I think they said on the news -20 was the cut-off point for closing schools because of those who walk and well, the buses that don't want to start probably have something to do with it. I think I just want to take a long winter's nap and wake up when it's over. ;)
