(NewsCore) - Golden State Warriors guard Charlie Bell was briefly held in police custody after showing up legally drunk to a hearing in his drunk driving case, WJRT-TV reported.

The 32-year-old former Michigan State star was due to appear in court in Flint, Mich., Thursday on a drunk driving charge from October.

The case was going to be resolved, according to the report, until the NBA veteran registered .09 in a blood-alcohol test that had been previously scheduled. The legal limit in Michigan is .08.

Bell was scheduled to return to court Friday after being detained on a bond violation until he sobered up.

Bell, a member of the NCAA champion Michigan State Spartans in 2000, has spent the past decade in the NBA and playing overseas. He played sparingly for the Warriors last season, appearing in 19 games.

he'll be collecting unemployment before his next court appearance.

I've never understood how in the hell you can fail a scheduled drug/alcohol test. There have been many times in my life where I would have failed either or both at the same time. However, even in my worst times I could have managed to be clean long enough to pass a test if I knew it was coming.
