If the rumors are true...

Then Turner Motorsports may be going into cup with the number 37 in 2014.

However, the driver won't be Kyle Larson, as he is locked into a contract. Surprisingly, it won't be Justin Allgiar either who I think would be a great fit. No, it would be Nelson Piquet Jr :/, with his NW sponser coming along to cup and Miguel Paludo replacing him in NW.

Thoughts? Personally, I think Turner screwed up, big time.

Well, honestly, if NP's sponsor wants to be the ticket for Turner Scott to go Cup racing it's an in for them. As for NP being Cup material, no. Personally, I don't think Turner Scott has anybody that's ready for Cup. Larson is under contract with Ganassi/Earnhardt so he's not in the equation.

I think Allgaier would have been good. Hes been pretty loyal to Turner and a good spokesman for the team. Larson has plenty of time to make it into Cup. And I think in the recent years, drivers hae been pushed into Cup before they were ready. Danica being the most recent. She should have had at least another year in NW. She doesnt have any upbringing in stock cars or even dirt cars, unlike 95% of the rest of NASCAR drivers.

This would surprise me... I thought it was touch and go this year as to if Nelson's sponsors had enough $$ for Nationwide rather than Trucks this year.

I would think if Turner took anyone to Cup it would be James Buescher. But I wonder if the introduction of Harry Scott as a partner in the team has hurt his standing a bit (i.e. Does Steve Turner have less say on who is getting the rides?). Just seemed like last year they found a lot of Nationwide rides for James on his Truck off weekends and nothing so far this year.

I kind of get the feeling Allgaier is destined to be a career Nationwide driver or he'll have to settle for a low-end Cup ride. His Brandt sponsorship is not a full season sponsorship (I think they were short about 7-9 races) but Turner did commit to running him for the championship even with the limited sponsorship.

Larson's move to Cup will be with Ganassi, whenever they feel he is ready. They have him signed and are funding his Turner Nationwide ride so they get first shot at him in Cup.

Welcome to the forum , vroom . It's all about funding , right?

that will be interesting if he does, another former formula 1 driver in cup. His fan base isn't in the U.S. as much as in South America . Long term racing family, his dad won F1 championship three times, the name is known world wide.

Did Junior ever make it to F1? I can't recall.

yeah he did, team owner crap, he blew it off.
He was signed as test driver for Renault Formula One team for the 2007 season, and was promoted to the race team for 2008,[4] before being dropped midway through the 2009 season.[5] After losing his drive, it emerged that he had, under instruction from senior members of the team, crashed deliberately at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to help his teammate, Fernando Alonso, win the race; the resulting scandal became one of the most significant in the sport's history.

IMO, James Beuscher is by far the best driver Turner has, but it is all about sponsorship. I agree with what you say about Allgaier. He seems to keep making the same mistakes over and over, and he's a poor teammate.

Kind of early to tell. He's just begun the transition.
True, but they'd be better off running him in Nationwide past 2013. Right now he's in 14th in points among about 20 Nationwide regulars in his first full season. I don't see another reason for the big rush.

there is more to the story behind the scenes. anyone that is a minority is going to be getting an easier path. this is likely sponsor/money related with perhaps piquet bringing or sponsor and or money to the table.

I really would like to be there if you get the balls to tell Johanna Long that. It's extremely rare that she loses her temper but when she does its full bore and that would most certainly do it and I don't blame her.

oh man, minority? Diversity program? really? Piquet Jr, Born in Germany to a 3 time F1 champion, lived all over the world knows at least three languages, raced all types of cars including F1, yeah he is "diverse" all right but he sure doesn't need a hand out or a hand up.:) and he can kick too. You guys need to read up..money, sponsorship, huge fan base.. and past championships...whew. please no nah nah nah .he doesn't have this, he is in whatever place, this no name up and comer is better. He is a celebrity driver..you know what that is don't ya? move on to a driver that is in the diversity program, insert Bubba Wallace , a guy that needed a hand up and is doing something with the opportunity.

Basically, it's a money grab with an unproven minority driver. Yeah, that's no different than Danica's move.

It is women..and minorities..=drive for diversity:) Piquet Jr is too old also, but he is still kicking.

I agree , I wouldn't give a crap for any rookie coming in to cup for at least five years . Anyone who thinks a guy like Buscher , Stenhouse , or even Kyle Larson has anything for these chase drivers is nuts . Piquet could be as good as any of them , who knows , but if he brings sponsors , that's enough to give him a shot.

I'm sure the good old boys were mad when Yankees like Tim Richmond and Alan Kulwicki wanted to race in Cup too.

Stenhouse probably would've won at Kansas if not for that late caution that caught him a lap down. Even Kenseth admitted as much.

man you just don't quit do ya:) the cut off age for the program is 25. it isn't for trucks, N'wide or cup either. get it, got it, all done
That would've been easier to figure out the first time if you could've put together a comprehensible sentence.

Only because of pit strategy.
However, I do forsee Ricky winning a race within the next couple years.

Stenhouse is having a great year (for a rookie ),he may even win a race , he is in a top five ride , with a top five crew chief , he'll probably end up the year around 25th in points ,( which will be great for a rookie). These guys are great talents or they wouldn't get to cup . But it takes 4 or 5 years to learn how to beat Jimmy Johnson , Tony Stewart ,Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth , Carl Edwards , Greg Biffle , Kasey Kahne and Kyle Busch .

Whatever you choose to call bringing sponsorship to your team , I think we can agree that it's pretty much a prerequisite today.

While that's true, I consider Ridebuying to be what Milka Duno does. She doesn't have the talent to be in a racing series.

Having talent and bring sponsors isn't in the same category.

I see what you're saying now but different drivers have different learning curves. Edwards finished 3rd in points his first full year in Cup in '05, Jimmie finished 5th his first full season, Kyle 20th, Biffle 20th, Kahne 13th, Kenseth 14th, Gordon 14th, and Stewart 4th. They're all over the map. Personally I think Ricky finishes inside the Top 20 this year and that it will take at least a couple of years for him to make the Chase but I don't believe 4-5 years of Cup experience is necessarily a prerequisite for success.
