If Tony Stewart wins the WC championship...

...do you think he'll stay in NA$CAR?

Having read his book earlier this season, I think he'd do some long, hard thinking about that. His first love is open wheel cars and I really believe that he'd go back to racing sprint cars and midgets around an IRL season and trying for a win at Indy.

I hope he does too. I think he would be satisfied if he got to run the Indy 500 every year and some more races like he would want too. He adds so much to NASCAR.

I would hate to see him leave, but I know that he isn't happy so I hope he goes and does whatever makes him happy.

But something tells me it'll be hard to give up those big NASCAR purses. :)

It might if he didn't have any comming in,But I am sure Tony could make a lucrative living without Nascar.

He did pretty well before coming into NA$CAR, just not a seven figure income.

Take a look at his book, "True Speed." It gives you an insight to why Tony is the way he is.

I'm a lil torn because I'm both a nascar and an IRL fan. While I would love to see Tony back in the IRL, I would hate to lose him in nascar. He's one of the few guys left that really speaks up and tells it like it is. There really aren't many guys like that left in nascar. Paul worded it pretty good in another thread......

"I like guys like Tony, Todd, Rusty etc. Guys that speak up, guys that aren't afraid to miss a sponor's name while they cuss out someone that pissed em off."

If Tony goes to the IRL, we'll lose that and there aren't enough left in nascar to lose.

:)

I think Tony will stay. I wouldn't be surprised in a few more years he leaves, but the money will keep him.

It is definitely Tony's championship to lose. While alot of people don't like Tony's personality, myself included, he IS good for Nascar. With that being said, I would hate to see him leave the sport. He made a strong statement to me yesterday, starting 31st and working his way to the front and avoiding trouble. He's racin smart right now and I don't see that changing.

I am pretty sure that Tony will drive both IRL and Nascar next year. He really misses the IRL racing, but loves the $$ from Nascar. But in all reality, we'll just have to wait and see what Tony decides.

It depends what his motivation is. Maybe instead of wanting to win Indy, he'll want to go down as one of NASCARS greats? I could see him staying or leaving, I just hope he stays.

He may run Indy but JG (or any other owner) will never let him run both series regularly. They can't afford him taking the risk of getting hurt. Most don't even like their drivers running the Busch series.

Plus their schedules are so different. Things would overlap.

I think he will stay in nascar for many years it seems to me he loves racing of all types.

I don't know if Tony will leave or not. I hope he stays.

But the real question should be: Who would the press have to pick on if he did leave?:)

Harvick is old news. The press threw him to the curb like a prom date with a lip sore.

I dont think that he will stay. He clearly wants to be the best every week, understandably so, and the level of competition is just too great and it seems to be more frustrating to Tony than fun. He is a very good racer and should be having fun out there every time, he has to deal with being second or worse far too much for him to find the level of satisfaction that he seems to desire. I think he'll sink his money into an awesome Sprint car ride and lap up the victories, run some open wheel pretty much whenever he feels like it and probably have a lot more fun than he is having now.

I disagree. If Tony leaves Cup, I don't think it'll be because he hates the competition, but because he hates the bureaucracy of NASCAR. To say otherwise doesn't give Tony a whole lot of credit, IMO.

i say if he does leave after winning a championship, not to many people will like that, including the drivers, to me it would seem like he was saying i beat you guys, so im gonna move on to other things, ive already proved my point here. and what about all the fans that he would piss off if he left the sport? personally i cant see to many people being happy if tony left NASCAR, even NASCAR themselves, sure hes caused some trouble this year with the media, oh well, atleast he shows emotion, something NASCAR seems to frown on lately :(, NASCAR should allow the drivers to get in eachothers faces, step in if it starts getting alittle out of hand, like the allisons at daytona :D, i think what im tryin to say here is no matter how bad i say i hate him, i respect him, cause he still seems real, unlike my driver who just seems like a marketing tool, that doesnt show emotion , personally i wish there were more drivers like him, i bet it would make racing better... well maybe, im sure there would be more actions determental to stock car racing

Hey, I like that. "I wish there were more actions detremental to stock car racing" :)

It certainly seems that the things NASCAR finds detremental I find entertaining and real. Good point Todgee.

Thats what kind of puzzles me. NASCAR doesn't like their drivers showing emotion because they say its bad for the sport. But is seems like thats what alot of NASCAR fans like. How is it bad for the sport to see somebody yelling at somebody else?

I want emotion. I like when football players show it when they score a touchdown, when hockey players score or a goal, or when something bad happens, you can see the emotion. Why shouldn't NASCAR drivers be allowed to do the same thing?

If Tony Stewart wins the championship, I could just see him at the banquet at the end of the year. When it would be his turn to speak, he would just come up to the microphone and smile.

... and then he'd go back stage and punch Helton in the face for putting him on probation again ...

I could see that or Tony high fiving one of his crew members and missing and hitting him in the head, and then the crew member filing a lawsuit.

Sorry I'm evil... :p

Every time we put this guy on probation, he ends up winning a race or now possibly a championship. I'm not sure if this is the publicity Home Depot wants, but hell, it seems to be working!

As long as Home Depot wins the championship I don't think they care at all...

Wouldn't that be a surprise if Home Depot left after this season or after whatever year they are signed up until.

Stewart, thanks for the championship, cya later! Don't punch any of our employees on your way out!

If he doesn't leave first. I wouldn't be surprised if he does, but I don't want him to.

I doubt he would leave. He knows he's got a good ride with Joe Gibbs racing, he just needs to take care of his temper outside of the car.

It's okay with me if he leaves. I never liked him anyway.

My brother, on the other hand, would have a fit, cause he thinks Stewart's some kind of god or something.

I've never liked his attitude, and I happen to like outspoken people. Reading his book didn't help me to understand him either. He came off in that like some egotistical winning freak, with no life outside of racing, so the winning is all that ever has been, and possibly ever will be, important to him. It's just supposed to be a job, not a life, but that's what it is for him. I think that's why he has all the problems he does.

I really wouldn't be surprised if he dropped out of NASCAR after winning a championship, because I think all he's trying to do is prove he can be a champion in everything. I really don't care. If that's all he's in it for, one championship and moving on, then he was never really a WC driver in the first place.

Cassie

I suggest you actually read the book again then. He talks plenty about friendships with our people if it was with racing or not. He talks plenty about everyday life. Then again you said you never liked him, so it sounds like you had your opinion made up already.

Why people don't like Tony is because he beats their drivers more often than not. Same reason why many don't like Gordon!

Only person to ever win all 3 USAC titles in one year. IRL champion. Has never finished worse than 6th in NASCAR points. In his short time in NASCAR, he already has 15 victories. His vicotry total is 2nd most since he's been in the sport. Man he really sucks:rolleyes:
