If you could revive any old track....

For the cup series to race at again, which would it be?

I'd like to see them at Rockingham again.

Let's see if you can run that one on just two tire stops.

Rockingham rocks (if you see what I did there)
However I would prefer for them to race on Montreal.

I wish Riverside wasn't turned into ramshackle houses and a ramshackle mall and the track still hosted Cup races.. But of tracks still standing.. N Wilkesboro

Their is a part of me that hopes IF the attendances at the big tracks keep going down maybe some of these tracks could be brought back to the schedule.

I know it has a snowballs chance in Hell, but I can dream.:)

I say North Wilkesboro since it's a true short track, but I'll be plenty happy if Rockingham ever returns, which is much more likely since it's open and hosting races. I don't expect NW to ever return to the schedule since it's abandoned and deteriorating.

Rockingham or Road America in Wisconsin (Cup cars raced there once back in the 50's)

They NEED to make a cup race at R America. Seriously, they can take away the chase date from loudon (most boring track n the schedule imo) and stick Road America in its place. It would also accomplish the goal of a road course in the chase.

Take out one of the Pocono dates and replace it with the Daytona infield circuit. Would be amazing to see the transition from plate-style racing to a road course.

I went to every Rockingham race for over twenty years (1976 -1999) and two Sprint Cup races after 1999, they were all good races, but I never felt they were as enjoyable as North Wilkesboro.
Keeping in mind the question was, if they could bring back one track, giving consideration to watching the race on television, my pick would be Road America. If you remove the watching on television factor and consider actually being at the track, my choice would be North Wilkesboro.

This thread is about adding a track so I hope those who mentioned giving up Pocono and /or New Hampshire were just kidding . I would much rather give up both races at Charlotte , a big dumb mile and a half than any of the really unique tracks that really test driving skill like Louden and Pocono. Louden is a flat track with very little banking that is not easy to navigate (let alone pass ) while Pocono is nearly impossible to set a car up for due to three completely different turns and banking . It is (or was ) the only track that drivers have to shift gears on. Pleae don't even think about taking away unique tracks .

Moving the Truck and Nationwide series away from there and putting a Nationwide race at the Brickyard was an awful move.

Yes it was. This track could provide one of the best cup races of the season.

Texas World Speedway.

I always have said that if I win the lottery I would buy this track and upgrade it so we could at least get Trucks and/or NNS there.

I would of loved to see that track in its prime. IndyCars raced there too. If we're going to be pragmatic though, Eddie Gossage/TMS/SMI would probably throw a fit if somebody tried to revamp the place and make it compete for Cup/Nationwide/Truck/IndyCar dates again.

I'm not so sure about this one. It's more convenient than TMS for those in Southern half of the state, but it's a 2-mile track that's nearly identical to Michigan except with steeper banking.

Rockingham, but I'm prejudiced. It's where I attended my first race (Oct. 95 Busch race) and the second closest track to my house (after Darlington).

I never got to see NW, but I'm afraid it's beyond restoration. It would take too much money to get IRP up to Cup standards, especially seating capacity, but it certainly belongs back on the supporting series' schedules. Otherwise, any former road course would be acceptable.

North Wilkesboro, Road America, Riverside, TWS, Portland, just to start a list.

The current owner did alot of track updates. Greg biffle went 216 in testing at TWS (rumor is that roush paid for the updates to make it into a usable testing facility- this is when NASCAR had locked up all testing). The facility would need a ton of updates to handle any kind of crowd, but the track is still used by the SCCA and with the banking re-paved, it's actually usable. But the garages are minimal, grandstands and media tower are condemned, and the pitside paddock hasn't been touched- I was brave to walk on the upper level. Most of the wood is at or near the point of rotted.

Closed tracks, definitely North Wilkesboro. One of my favorites and I miss it. But let's not forget Bristol before progressive banking;)

North Wilksboro it even had an elevation change. Rockingham a close second. For NWS, Hickory (maybe the best races I ever saw was the Busch cars at Hickory) then IRP.
For local tracks, New Ashville speedway.

Wouldnt bother me if they dropped Indianapolis, and one of the Pocono, Michigan events, plus an event at every 1.5 m tri oval.

And yes I know would not be good for the shareholders, and it wont happen. I just have the peculiar idea that the races should be based on what produces the best racing.

My spidey sense is telling me you fellas' know good racing. Now I gotta lot of tracks to look up. :D

Rockingham, Riverside and OMS.

I'm guessing that's a picture of Ontario Motor Speedway.

Did they actually start three wide ?
I imagine so. Ontario billed itself as "Indianapolis of the West" so I could see them starting the field 3-wide like Indy.
