I imagine so. Ontario billed itself as "Indianapolis of the West" so I could see them starting the field 3-wide like Indy.
That's right, I forgot about that.
If I remember correctly the track was a two and a half mile clone of Indy.

North Wilksboro it even had an elevation change. ... For NWS, Hickory (maybe the best races I ever saw was the Busch cars at Hickory) .
We attended races for many, many years at No. Wilkesboro, before there was seating in the first and second turns and the only seating was the concrete grandstands in front and some in wood grandstands in the back stretch, right up until the track closed. Greg nailed it in mentioning the great NWS (a/k/a Grand National or Busch Series) w/ the screaming v-6 engines racing at Hickory. Right next door to the funeral home!!! They were some great races at Hickory!!! And for those who whine about reporters, one of the greatest and best writers/reporters of NASCAR and NASCAR racing was Joe Whitlock.
Wouldnt bother me if they dropped Indianapolis, and one of the Pocono, Michigan events, plus an event at every 1.5 m tri oval.
Great idea!!
And yes I know would not be good for the shareholders, and it wont happen. I just have the peculiar idea that the races should be based on what produces the best racing.
You really are an old phart hanging on to old fashioned ideals and days when racing was fun and corporations didn't make the calls.
Five Flags Speedway, thank goodness, is still all about racin, no corporate interference and they absolutely do not put up with any form of cheating or outside influences, ask kybu they kicked his ass of off the property twice.Yes, the good old days when racing was about......racing[/B][/I]. That concept is well gone and fans have been paying the price since.
There have been at least three attempts to return racing to NW. One of them even managed to put cars on the track for a couple of races. None of them had solid financial banking. I don't recall NW even being used as a test site, something that Rockingham at least had a source of income when testing was banned from active tracks.I was just looking at pics and vids of the tracks you guys have mentioned and it's sad to see recent pics of North Wilkesboro. Does anyone know if their are any plans to do anything with this track?
