is country. Not the stuff they play today, but the country music from the forties through the early eighties. There are too many "singers"(?) making the big time in modern day country rockabilly who can't sing without dubbing and artificial means.
The real country music singers are performers such as Merle Haggard, George Jones, Ferlin Huskey, Slim Whitman, Ernie Tubb, Hank Snow, Williams, Sr. and Thompson, Lefty Frizell, Bob Wills, just to name a few. They are the true country music makers.
As for women who can put a hurt on country music sounds are Kitty Wells, Lynn Anderson, Brenda Lee, Patsy Cline and especially Connie Smith. Golly there were so many more it is impossible to list them.
Country music, like Winston Cup racing, has taken a major detour from where it started. And not to the better. Please keep in mind, this is MHO.
But to answer the question, aside from old style country music, classical, mello jazz, Broadway show tunes, big band sounds and marching music. Personal favorites today in the modern music world, Nora Jones and in country sector the Texas swing style of The Derailers, throw in some Randy Travis, Alan Jackson, Vince Gill too, but surely I missed someone I enjoy.
See, forgot something. Old time rock and roll from the fifties and sixties. Ya gotta remember, I am a product of the era where that music was king. Top singers of the day??? Perry Como and ELVIS.
This is just to much concentration for a Saturday afternoon on a topic I enjoy as much as talking racin'.
Actually, it was a trick question wasn't it????
