I'm BACK ! !

AC and proper sausages are all you need...with a bun of course...and some relish and mustard...maybe some chips...and "of course" beer.

A laundry machine doesn't hurt either - and maybe a car. A few fishing poles and a couple guns. TV and computer/internet, a phone, a place to grow vegetables, a vacuum cleaner (a must)...7 or 8 bags of ice (unless you have a refrigerator)...a guitar and a radio....a cat or dog...binoculars...another gun...another fishing pole...gasoline...water (for the plants)...a remote controlled mini-car to chase the animals with...a couple laser pointers...batteries...golf clubs and balls...seeds...a bed...and that's about it...oh and money helps in case I forgot anything :).

Other than that it's a simple life.....ooops ...raining now...an umbrella.

Flashlight.

it looks like a kitchen sink really is the last thing a person needs

Electrician is on the way to fix the last little bit of lightning left-overs ---- it took out 2 yard lights.

Good true story...when I lived in South Carolina (Goose Creek - near Charleston) a lightning bolt hit a pine tree in our yard...close to the house. It apparently went through the roots and got into a wire and took out our ground fault interrupter...the cable box...the VCR...and didn't quite kill the TV. So we got the cable dude to come out and fix the TV and bought another VCR. Still there were things not working (like lights in the bathroom) so I asked a friend of mine (who was a golfing electrician) to help me out. We went back and forth - schedule wise - and he finally said "Dave, you can do it...I'll just be on the phone with you". I thought O-F. He said "you have the power turned off coming into the house right?"...and I said "yep nothing is working". He said "fine, now you see those big two silver wires coming into the fuse box?"..."yep" "Don't touch them just in case or you will be killed". "OK"

He said - "you have a new ground fault interrupter right?" "Yep" ..."OK well just pull the old one out and put the new one in"

I said "It won't come out...it's stuck"...he said "Just use a screwdriver in there and pry it out - but be careful about those two big wires".

Poop - "OK"...just at about the time I was prying out the fried ground fault interrupter a kid next door lit off some firecrackers (it was close to the 4th)...I damn near had a heart attack. I got it done but told myself - NEVER AGAIN - I will always hire a real electrician .

Interesting P.S. - when my buddy did come over he looked at my "box" and said "you just turned off the power from the box to the house - those incoming wires were live"

I'll tackle almost anything, but 2 things I will NOT do ---
1. climb an extension ladder. I'll go up an 8ft step ladder, but that's it.
2. have anything to do with electricity.
I agree with you TRL exept since I worked as a roofer and fell off of a two story bldg I can't even climb a step ladder .being a cop was much safer than doing roofs lol

Yeah - I don't trust extension ladders either...I've gone up on a few (after checking the links/connections properly) - but I never had any confidence coming down....and coming down is half the process ;)

Yeah, I jacked myself up pretty good just installing a ceiling fan once. I kept checking and rechecking connections and flipping on and off the breaker in between. I lost track of the breaker position and got a pretty good jolt down my arm and shoulder. It wasn't life threatening, or even too painful as far as other pain I've experienced, but it scared the crap out of me. Not playing with that stuff again.
