Sumbeech, you would think a blessing would last longer than 24 hours. Wife's car just came home on a wrecker. She said she noticed a smell, then a little smoke from under the hood. As she was trying to get over on Route 95 the engine reved up, car slowed down. Under the hood looks like a deer was field dressed, everything covered in trans fluid. Maybe this will make her mind up. She wants a new car but she's not very enthusiastic over what's out there. She really wants a 2012 Bonneville.

Bonneville? That was a Pontiac:confused:

Yeah, it's a '98 SE. Leather and all the power options. Replaced the original motor due to Dextrol and the gasket fiaso. motor is out of a 02 and had 44k on it when installed. Cars got 175k, motor almost 90k. Problem is she loves that car. She likes the styling, size, options, comfort and oh yes the acceleration when she nails it. Can't say much because I've BTDT too with a few cars. She's test driven and not thrilled with the Accord, Sonata, Altima. Even gave a thumbs down to a Beamer and a small MB.

I've passed the torch, er wrench to my son. He's looking it over now.

Get her to test drive a 2011 Taurus SHO. It's the same car they test drove as a new cop car on Top Gear US a couple weeks ago.

Dammit, cheap GM products! [that's my Andy impersonation:) ] Plug where the trans line screws into the radiator has a "cracked" weld/solder connection. Fluid sprays out. Oh boy does it ever! Trans lines don't look the best either, lots of chaffing where the clip holds them from chaffing. [???]. Bought a lot of parts for the race car from a local GM dealer, new lines will come out of the "Boston" warehouse and be here at 2pm. Called a aftermarket parts co I did some work for years ago, I'm off to pick up a new radiator. Not going to mess trying to fix a almost 15 year old radiator. Now just hoping the trans didn't overheat enough to burn up the clutch discs.

btw, Wife doesn't like a car shaped like a Tampon, plus I wouldn't let my son park his Villager van in the driveway. My wife knows furd in a 4 letter word, not happening while I'm above ground. Chevy runs deep.

BTW
New radiator and trans lines. Doesn't appear the trans got hurt, drives fine. While the hood was up new anti-frizzle, thermostat, upper, lower and heater hoses. New air filter and wiper blades. Better to do it in the sunshine then in the middle of a snow storm,,which in the past years has been the norm.

I am lucky, my wife was taught by her Dad to moniter guages and at the first sign of anything unusual, including a sound/smell to pull over and stop. Could have been expensive if she hadn't.
My SIL drove on a flat tire until it caught fire and burned the car to the ground.

Kinda hard to keep driving when the trans quits working?
