... but the history of the moment is undeniable. It's the lead story on SportsCenter (ESPNews or MASN if you get either network), the lead story on ESPN.com, the lead story on FOXNews.com and on the front page of NBCNews.com.

NASCAR can't be happier. Sunday's race will probably be the second most watched sporting event in the country this year.

Her appeal far outweighs the detractors on this forum. Go to the race. People cheer for her. They line up at her souvenir hauler to buy her merchandise. Heck, even if she doesn't win a race she's still promotion for the sport and there's nothing wrong with that IMO. How is that a bad thing?

I agree but the problem is, those fans won't stay. Once the novelty wore off in IndyCar, their ratings were well below pre-Danica levels. Hell, only 20 people saw the one race she won.

Im not a danica hater by any means, but I am a realist. Its very hard to come from an open wheel mindset and bang around in stock cars. It goes against everything you have ever been taught in open wheel racing about how to drive a race. Of course shes going to have issues at first but I think with time, and experience she will settle in well. Having smoke as a mentor sure cant hurt anything as well.

I honestly think it is awesome to see her pull off winning the 500 pole....the exposure this will bring to the sport is very exciting. Like it or not, the medi will eat this up and I think it is a good thing....I want her to be successful in the sport because to me it does two things, 1) it is a shot to young females that you can do anything you set your mind to, 2) it brings a HUGE surge to the sport...diversity is a good thing!

Nobody remembers who won the pole for the Daytona 500, they remember who wins the Daytona 500 and Dancia Patrick will not win the Daytona 500.

Trevor Bayne won the Daytona 500 in an underfunded car. I wouldn't go as far as saying she won't win. This is a really good thing for Nascar. Biggest race of the year and a woman is starting on the front row....yeah I doubt the ratings will be huge.

We just need a simple Danica thread.

Fox just picked up a full point for the start of the race. I'm all for Danica doing well in nascar, because this sport needs a boost.

Where did I say anything about ratings? I'm saying she won't win the race because she won't.

The ratings part was my comment and my comment alone. My reply to you was that if Bayne can win the 500 so can Danica.

It's true and I've said it before, her only chance to win a race is when it's going to be one where half the field is wrecked out.

That being said I can't wait until Sunday when she shows her lack of race talent and things can get back to normal in the racing world.

I'm trying to imagine SHGR's reaction IF Danica somehow won a race.

Her only chances are the plate races or a really smart gas mileage race, she doesn't have enough talent to wheel a car to a win at any other track.

I'm rather confident I will never have to see the day when she enters victory lane and she sure as hell won't be a repeat winner because every blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile. Look at the other winless streaks that were around for awhile, Gordon, Dale Jr and look at Jeff Burton who hasn't won a race in years. All 3 of them are a thousand times better then Danica could ever dream to be.

I can't wait till this race gets started on Sunday and we get back to normal.

Makes me think of one word ...Conspiracy...Nascar's been accused of it many times in the past and it sure seems possible...jus sayin

If she does win the media will talk about it for the rest of the season. You can bet on that.

And the hate on here is excessive. I don't like her, but holy ****....the Haterade that's flowing right now is enough to flood an entire continent.

And your above statement holds true for most of the drivers in Cup.

It's really just me bringing the hate and I think there are maybe 2 other posters. I'm in the minority but I'm just a very loud minority. :D

I hope Danica does well, I like her and I think she's good for the sport, so count me as a liker...

Im not a hater. In fact id love to see her do well. I just think she needs a lot more experience than she has.

LOL no way no how . If you think that is possible , you must be a very new fan.Just sayin.

Of all the Hendrick cars, #10 wouldn't have been most people's pick for the pole but it hardly indicates a Nascar conspiracy
