Well, I started having some fairly serious chest painsat work today and my left shoulder was hurting pretty bad and my left arm was really tingly. With my family history I did a Google search for heart attack symptoms and found quite a few that I was experiencing. I called my brother, the expert who's had several and he told me to get my ass to the ER. I did. And it doesn't look like I had one, but they are keeping me until Monday anyway to run tests and then do a stress test on Monday.

I was fairly certain I wasn't having one, but I figured that with my luck, if I didn't get to the ER I'd end up dying from a mild attack I ignored or something.

I'm glad it wasn't a heart attack. You definitely did the right thing getting checked out. As Mike said, better safe than sorry.

Keep us updated.

Best of luck. If you'd had one that was serious at all you wouldn't be posting about it on the net. I know a guy that was taken in with the big symptoms recently; they even sent him out of town to a better equipped hospital to deal with it. It turned out the difficulty breathing, severe left side chest and shoulder area pain was the result of a pulled/strained muscle around the rib cage.

Glad that you will be ok, and better safe than sorry.

Thanks again. The stress test they did this morning didn't go too smoothly as I had to stop the treadmill and lay down and they coached me through a really rough patch. I'm still waiting on the results of the test to see if I go home today or if there is more in store for me here. Three days in the hospital is plenty enough for me.

Good to hear. Did they give you a big list of rules on your way out the door?

Not as many as you might think. They basically had no idea I am so freaking light headed and dizzy at the drop of a hat, even sometimes when I am just sitting still. But, they told me to follow up with my endocrinologist and my primary care doctor. Umm, thanks?

Serious question here: have you been drinking plenty of water? Not sodas, coffee, or anything with caffeine; the caffeine promotes dehydration. Chest pains, light headedness, and dizziness are all symptoms of dehydration. And your weakness and dizziness wouldn't go away entirely until everything gets balanced out again. Push liquids, especially water and something like Powerade with lots of electrolytes; it can't hurt, and some doctors overlook dehydration as a cause of these symptoms while they look for big problems.

Actually, I do drink an awful lot of water usually. I start my work days with a bottle of water and fill it constantly from the drinking fountain. I didn't drink as much as usual in the hospital, though, even though they had a large cup of ice water sitting there on my tray the whole time. I just didn't feel like drinking much. I wasn't on an I.V. like I have been when I was previously in the hospital, where they would have been keeping me hydrated that way. That is a possibility I will consider and drink plenty today. Thanks!

Yeah, all I drink is water. I've been that way since I was a little kid. I honestly can't remember the last time I drank anything other than water.

All the best Ben and please take things as easy as you possibly can.
