After 9 races in 2004-2006 worst spot a future chaser was? with #9-Kasey Kahne, 31st in drivers championship points after 9 races, the question has been, after 9 races in the three previous Chase's, what was the worst spot a future Chaser [in that season] was in after the 9th race? In 2006 after the 9th race, #11-Hamlin was 19th in drivers points [and made it in the chase at 5th], in 2005 it was #17-Matt Kenseth who was 23rd [and made it in at 9th] after 9 races and in the first year of the Chase, 2004, Jeremy Mayfield [then in the #19, now in the #36] was 16th [and went into the chase at 9th]. The three drivers who won the last three Nextel Cup Championships were no deeper then 6th, that being #20-Tony Stewart. In 2006 #48-Jimmie Johnson was 1st and in 2004, #97-[now in the #2]-Kurt Busch was 4th after 9 races.

I think it's those darn girls following him around!

Being a Kasey fan by the association of filling Bill Elliots shoes, I really don't think he has a chance this year. I'm not quite sure whats going on with the Dodges but I personally think Elliott needs to go back to Evernham and give some input. And those 3 ladies..... Maybe they oughta go follow Jeff Gordon around....Yeah thats it.

I said this in another post that Dodge was in a lot of trouble this year and it seems to only get worse. Dodge hasn't had a good plate program right from the start, they have been good on the 1.5. 2.0, and even the short tracks, but when it comes to plate racing they have been behind since they got back in the sport. Whatever this is horespower or aero it seems they haven't been able to overcome it. Now with the COT coming into the mix i think that has put them at a real disadvantage this season. I believe Diamler is concentrating their efforts on selling Off Chrysler and not giving Evernham the help or resoures $$$ he needs this year. It has been a dramatic step down. If i recall correctly Kasey has only 1 pole this year and 1 top 10, last year as you all know he had a great season, so there is something definetly wrong at Evernham. It isn't Ray and Erin either, the ARCA program with her running the 98 car is actually doing decent. Dodge as a collective whole is not on the same page. With the looming sale of Chrysler on the horizon, this could dramatically hurt Dodges chances to stay in the sport. Of course it could go the other way, but when sales are down and your not making a whole lot of money budgets tend to get tightened or even cut.

I'm not giving up on Kasey just yet, but some times, even the best drivers have a bad year. Remember, it was Tony Stewart who didn't make the chase last year after being the previous year's champ, prompting NASCAR to add two more spots in the chase. Kasey can still make the chase, but it'll be an almost impossible job. One thing that we can all agree on though is that Mikey sure won't make it. :)
