NASCAR Returns Impounded Car
NASCAR returned the Bristol race-winning No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports car to the team by 11 a.m. this morning, NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp said Monday.

NASCAR had impounded the car after the race to take the vehicle to NASCAR's Research and Development Center in North Carolina for further evaluation. The sanctioning body had announced before the race, which was the debut of its new car of tomorrow, that it would impound cars following the first few races in order to see how the car changed from the start of the race to the end of it.

NASCAR put it through an inspection process very similar to the chassis pre-certification process, with some additional body measurements. Everything checked out perfectly, Tharp said.

Also taken from the Bristol test was the No. 16 car of Greg Biffle after the car's rear deck lid was too low in postrace inspection. NASCAR has not yet announced a penalty for that infraction.(scenedaily.com)
