I said replace the Crew Chief. But I really just think they are in a slump this year.

It has to be the crew cheif because the equipment and the driver have won races and a championship.

Good point, but I looked at it from the exact opposite angle...if the PEOPLE have been able to win, maybe the equipment isn't performing at 100% lately....

A 98-99% machine would hurt a lot over an entire race....

But I mostly agree with Ward22 and think it's just more a product of a slump and really competive....er...competitors.... <_<

think the time has come for DJ to retire, also i think yates needs to sit down and think about hiring someone for the day to day management of RYR, his son doug dosen't seem to be getting it done

Isn't this the UPS car? And if so, isn't Dale Jarriet the driver? I apologize if I got it wrong. Ia m still in the learning process of knowing what driver goes to what car.

Honest question here, de7xwcc, why do you feel that it is time for Dale Jarrett to retire?

I honestly think that this "slump" started before both of the Parrott's left RYR. It's the equipment, not the driver

Honestly, if it was the equipment then Sadler would not be having top 10 runs consistently this season, which he was having until his car chief got sent over to Jarrett. Jarrett has gone through 3 crew chiefs in a year I believe, a clear cut sign that he is hard to work with.

If he couldnt get it done with 3 crew chiefs, then he wont get it done now. I mean Christian freaking Fittipaldi out ran him at Chicago. Jarrett is 29th in points, just pathetic.

I dont think they need to fire the driver, yet. To me it just seems that DJ is not into it right now, maybe a good long offseason will cure that. Consider this season a throw away now.

majestyx, why do i think he should retire 1. the comments he made after the parrot boys left, something about he was just a driver, come on he should be telling his people what he needs. 2. the team goes from chicago to indy to test then says to hell with it and goes home. there is something we aren't hearing hear. 3. he just seems like he really dosen't care if they do good or not.
Maybe i'm wrong i just don't think he has the fire anymore. you also got to remember his dad was much younger than DJ when he retired.

I'm thinking that this "Other" guy is problem here, I mean come on he has not even won a race yet! :p

Yates should look first at Yates, usally a team's trouble starts with the top - that how I see it.

I choose other. I think this is a combination of all three. The chemistry between the driver and the rest of the team doesn't seem to be there. They have had some equipment problems, maybe they need to check procedures back at the shop. Recheck parts that come from suppliers. Recheck their own quality control methods.

MAybe they need a whole new crew? Just my random thoughts.

you gotta change something but what? its hards to tell until you replace virtually everything

I don't think it is really the driver. DJ has proven he can get the job done time and time again. I think that RYR is doing like Petty. They ar not putting the money into the cars. Just my 2 cents.

I went with Crew Chief, like bowtie said the driver and equipment have down alot better in the past.

We know that both our opinions are biased here but I'll pick at your reasoning anyway.

1. the comments he made after the parrot boys left, something about he was just a driver, come on he should be telling his people what he needs.

Sure, every driver should tell his crew chief what he needs, what the car is doing. What drivers should not have to do is tell the crew chief what needs to be down to the car. It is a crew chiefs responsibility to decide what changes to make with input from the driver.

DJ: "Brad, my car is loose getting in and tight up off the corner"

Brad: "What do you want to do to fix that DJ?"

Um, no. I heard it plenty of times through DJ's radio.

the team goes from chicago to indy to test then says to hell with it and goes home. there is something we aren't hearing hear.

We heard plenty in the news release on the story. They were going to unload the car from Chicago to test. As we can all tell, the Chicago car was well, not up to par.

he just seems like he really dosen't care if they do good or not.

This site is view by youngins. I am not going to quote some of the things I have heard him say in that race car over the last several races.

Todd Parrott was relieved of his duties becuase each chassis that he was building was not alike. Not even close. From week to week DJ was not getting any consistant handle on the race track and each week they were behind the eight ball. Now they have 10 new Hopkins built chassis' and the first one they used was at Chicago. Trust me, he has the will and fire to be an awesome driver. Things will turn around. Right now they are just in a rebuilding phase in the middle of the season which just about no team can turn around overnight.

If any DJ fan wanted to look forward to Sunday, he is racing a chassis that gave him two top 6 finishes last year.

Biased ?? what makes you think that ??

I just call em as i see em.

i can only hope that Dj never goes to DEI
i think he is my least favorite driver don't think i could ever pull for them to win if he was there.

Seeing as though you could give a crap about him leads me to believe IMO that your judgement is blurred when it comes to fixing the problem. I made good counterpoints for each point you attempted to make. I hope that when you do "call them when you see them" you are better informed about the situation.

just because i don't like him dosen't mean i can't be objective. i have my opinon you have yours,
by the way do you know DJ personally ? If not then i am just as informed as you.

and once again i stand by my post, these are MY observations you can agree or disagree that's what makes the world go round.

I disected your statements already. Some of your comments IMO were a little off.

As stated before he along with every single driver in Winston Cup cares about what they are doing and how their team is performing.

Again, it is not a drivers responsibility to tell a crew chief what needs to be done to the car. He drives the car, he tells the crew chief what the car is doing. The crew chief then makes the decision on what to do and at that time DJ can give his thoughts into what changes are being. This in fact does happen week in and week out. I listen to the scanner talk religously every Sunday so I know what the communication is like. With Brad it was horrible.

I do beg the question as to why would a team waste a valuable test date with a car that was junk. Doug Yates made the decision to send the team home rather then go to Indy.

I chose "Other" 'cause it's not the driver nor equipment. I'm not quite sure about the crew chief, though.

I do not know what's going on with the #88 team this year. Maybe it's just a bad year? You never know. But then again, it all kinda started after Dale won at Rockingham...

I think it's when that "other" guy started messing with a winning combination of DJ and Ricky Rudd. Nothing against Sadler but he hasn't added anything to what they already had. A smooth winning combination of veteran drivers that as far as I can tell complimented each other just fine.

I think it would benefit both RYR and DJ to part ways. Let RYR do whatever it wants with someone else and get what they can for DJ. I doubt he'd mind leaving that much either after the circus lately at RYR. Shouldn't be hard for him to land a job. DEI would be a nice fit <g>

Ooh, look at that! Was that a top ten for DJ? :D
Great job for DJ! Maybe we need to put more pressure on him...thats when he does well!!

Since last year with the Rudd mess of leaving it seems like RYR has been in a mess. Maybe with Fat Back leaving it made it worse. They have tried different crew chiefs and such, but it hasn't seemed to be able to gel. Maybe also since the common body place rule has come into effect it has also hurt. I don't think DJ is ready for the retirement home yet, but it could be a combination of him not wanting to adapt, equipment and the team chemistry is killing things at the 88. At this point the team is basically to the point of trying to get things lined up for next year, because this season is just a matter of trying to get to the top 25 in points.
