Indian tribe talks with ISC about track in Oregon
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- An Oregon tribe is in talks with International Speedway Corporation, the Daytona, Fla.-based company that owns 12 race tracks around the country
The Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde have expressed interest in funding a raceway suitable for NASCAR events.
The Grand Ronde had earlier proposed paying for a ballpark to boost Portland's chances of luring a major league baseball team. But the deal depended on the construction of a casino in the city.
Governor Kulongoski rejected the idea.
The tribe, which built Spirit Mountain Casino in 1995, owns multiple properties in Portland. The Grand Ronde has also invested in real estate as far away as Idaho and Montana.
Officials in both Oregon and Washington have expressed interest in a racetrack.
