I've been pretty optimistic about the future of NASCAR but these Indy stands are unreal. I think pre-season baseball games draw more fans than this.

They had to evacuate in case of lightning.

they sold around 50,000 tickets about the same as last year. With "severe thunderstorm warnings" in the forecast and then posted, could it possibly be that the ones who didn't show up watched the fans that were there scampering for cover when lightning was in the area and they felt they made the right choice to keep their family out of danger? Can this possibly help the attendance for next year? "The race is being moved back to September next year so it will be cooler and hopefully easier to get people to pay for a spot on hot bleachers overlooking hot asphalt all afternoon."

Y'ever chose to not attend a race that you paid for because when you got there the forecast sucked?

IDK how many were in attendance at IMS last year but 50K? No way! IDK how many are in the stands today as I can't count that low but there is no way on God's green earth 50K in tickets were sold. There is no reason to purchase tickets in advance for the 400 as you can walk up to the gate and purchase them at a moments notice.

Please Nascar......stop beating your head against the wall and leave IMS once and for all as there are plenty of other more interesting tracks to visit.

Just got home and turned on the race, I know there was a rain delay but damn....there's nobody there. There's a problem when you used to not be able to get a ticket to this race and now there's probably 40,000 people there. The Camera shots from today are embarrassing and scary for this sport.

An awful laughing stock when compared to the 500 crowd.

JMO but I think in cases where tracks cannot or will not remove seats that will never sell they should cover them up as it looks awful and casts a negative image of the series. If a newbie tuned into the race or someone saw highlights of it and saw the empty seats they would assume something was wrong with the series. Indy and Nascar need to divorce.

I'd say 40,000 is being VERY generous........

If attendance is 40K then 10K must be in the restrooms.......:D

Dispicable......... looks like a crowd for a practice session........
I can't understand why people arnt going to this race, it's freaking Indy. I can only speak for me when I say I did consider driving down to Indy in Friday but saw how hot it was going to be and said F that.

To be honest....... I have never been there..... never had any inclination to go..... It just never interested me.... flat track... VERY limited viewing..... hotter than a pistol...... even though folks went on and on about the ''history''...... and all that....... I was never interested in any of the hoopla..... I like to see good racing and be able to see it.......

The track sucks. Never mind the crappy racing, it absolutely sucks for spectators. You can't see ****. Maybe a 1/3 of the track if you are lucky and definitely less for those of us without the big $ to spend. You pay to say you were there because you don't pay to watch anything.

On top of all this.... look at how many of them (which were shown) are wearing dale jr gear... man.

Blaney's not a sophomore, I thought this is his third year?

The good news is no traffic jam worries for the Brantley family reunion , even with a late race ending.

I am pretty sure I have been to IRP more than once watching the Midgets and Silver Crowns and there was more fans in attendance then at IMS today. They say no publicity is bad publicity but today's crowd may be the exception to that if it becomes a story. Maybe they can come up with some promos next year to get some fans in the stands.

Once again another wreck a half straightaway before their little OT line... I hate how they make that look official. We know it needed to be over for darkness but anyway...

Honestly good for everyone that stayed home. Would have sucked to have paid for a race that didn't start till 3 and ended with NASCAR manipulating the OT line. Not watching this **** for a while what's the point.

I wouldn't want to go because you can't see most of the track, and the racing generally sucks.
