Indy TV Ratings down from 2006: ESPN's coverage of Sunday's Allstate 400 NASCAR Nextel Cup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway earned a 4.1 overnight rating, Street & Smith's SportsBusiness Daily reports. The cable station's rating was 14.6% lower than the overnight figure in 2006, when the race was aired on network television by NBC. (SceneDaily.com), Zap2it.com reports a 4.2 Cable Rating with 4,657,000 households and 6,574,000 viewers.

That 14.6% listened on radio :D

I don't believe that the viewership was down "because" it was on cable versus network. I believe that the veiwership in general is down in Nascar.

Lots of people I know who used to go to and watch races say they don't go or watch anymore because Nascar won't let them race anymore.

I know quite a few people who won't watch because it's on ESPN/ABC now.

Remember, that 4 million (if this is the total viewer demographic) tgranslates into over 20 million.

I hate these reports because Jayski never states the demographic (which I'm sure is information he has, and neither does Zap2it.com).

If this is the 25-54 demo, which I suspect it is, it's probably more like 60 million viewers nationwide.

6 million - again, this translates into over 20 million.

It's down, but the numbers aren't that small. The term total is just irresponsibly used here. That's total as far as Neilsen ratings (which is the only ratings service) go.
