Indycar Grand Prix of Long Beach

Me like open wheel racing. They should be called single seaters instead, though. I'm going to have some tough decisions to make if the Blackhawks have any playoff games on Sundays.

The track next to the Queen Mary has never been high on my list, but since it's always been run before May, is another opportunity to get used to what the cars look like before they get to Indy.

Track Info

The 1.968-mile, 12-turn circuit encircles the Long Beach Convention Center -- which houses a Family Fun Zone and numerous displays during the race weekend -- and runs down scenic Shoreline Drive.

It offers numerous overtaking opportunities, including a hairpin turn just before the front stretch. Brian Redman won the first race in 1975.

Got to disagree here. Love this track. Used to play it over and over again on the old CART game on the Sega Dreamcast in 1998. Always kind of reminded me as IndyCar's answer to Monaco. Along with Surfer's Paradise, which was another great street circuit.

I'm glad their doing the lap preview in Corvettes again. They did it in like a Honda Civic at St. Pete, which is NOT a race car.

That's the lamest post race exit I've ever seen. On a scooter......

Those little pit scooters used to be everywhere at the race track. Now golf carts seem to be in vogue. I know John Force still uses pit scooters.

Larry Foyt - terrible NASCAR driver, pretty good IndyCar team strategist.

I have mini bikes myself. This little fella will put you on your back in a heartbeat.:)

Great to see Sato win! Liked him last year when he was with Rahal. Also like that he's a fireball on wheels. Cool to see a new guy win.

Congratulations, Takuma! It's shaping up to be a great fight for the championship, the points leader hasn't won - yet.

Get well soon, A.J.

First win by a Japanese driver in American open-wheel racing (USAC, CART, IRL, IndyCar).

First win for a Foyt-owned car since 2002 at Kansas with Airton Dare.

First win for a Foyt-owned car on a road course since Foyt himself won in 1978 at Silverstone.

No Penske, Ganassi or Andretti cars on the podium I believe that is a first. Great race today and this is the most competitive I ever seen a field in Indycar (by that I mean most drivers with a good chance at being able to win). Hopefully the oval races wont return to the big 3 domination though.

Last time no Penske, Ganassi or Andretti car finished on the podium in the current series (IRL/IndyCar) is the 2003 Japan Indy 2003 at Motegi! (not counting the 2008 Long Beach race, which was technically a race under the merged series but only CART teams showed up)
