This race is going to be a little emotional for the drivers I am sure. Dan Wheldon lived here the last few years of his life, Turn 10 has the new Dan Wheldon Way.

Yep. It will be very emotional I believe. Im sure you will see a lot of Dan Wheldon memorial decals, comments, pre-race shows, etc. I hope they do a moment of silence for Dan too before they start the race.

You know if F1 drivers are "the best in the world" you'd think Barrichello be faster.

Wasn't this race suppose to be on April 1st? I didn't realize they moved the race up and added Alabama to April 1st. I'm glad I clicked on this thread.

Unlike Fontana, the weather looks good for racing in Saint Petersburg today.

Castroneves car with the white, red and yellow looks less like Pennzoil and more like McDonalds.

I thought double file restarts were a thing of the past.

Glad they aren't. :)

No double file on ovals.

Talk about follow the leader though. Turn one on the restarts are the only time there's been any movement. I don't know it they're still feeling out the car in traffic or what, but it's supposedly easier to go hard into the corners for a pass attempt with this car, and we haven't seen that.

Here are the final results..

1. #3 Helio Castroneves
2. #9 Scott Dixon
3. #28 Ryan Hunter-Reay
4. #27 James Hinchcliffe
5. #2 Ryan Briscoe
6. #77 Simon Pagenaud
7. #12 Will Power
8. #5 EJ Viso
9. #83 Charlie Kimball

24. #78 Simona De Silvestro
25. #11 Tony Kanaan

I might be in the minority but the race coverage was what race coverage should be. No condescension. No gimmicks. No self-promotion. The commentators let the racing speak for itself. It was great to see multiple power plants again. The addition of the body around the rear wheels was a safety measure that did its job. I wonder how many lives that will save in the next several years? I don't care for street races so I won't comment on the quality of the race but it's good to see IRL back and it looks like it has some momentum going for it. I look for Birmingham to be a better race next weekend. (Hope so)

Hopefully NBC Sports Network lives up to the coverage VERSUS had for IZOD IndyCar.

I don't see why they wouldn't. They haven't changed their coverage of the NHL other then changing the name of the network and I had no issues with abc hd.

The race was so-so but I like Helio and it was nice to see him honor Dan.

Also loved that Ryan Hunter-Reay had a good finish, I love rooting for the Americans.

btw I didn't see anyone comment on it but did anyone see James Hinchcliffe wearing a Danica wig? Too funny.
