Injury Substitution

Can't say how accurate or inaccurate this might be. No one can. But DW wrote this week about a possible rule change taking place as early as next season.

Don't think I am in favor of it. Injuries are now and have always been a factor in any sport. If a player is hurt and cannot perform it is bad luck for them, but so it goes. In no other sport I know of do the personal stats of the injured continue to benefit. If the team loses ground because of the loss of a player that too is part of the game.

If they wish to place more emphasis on the owner/team point totals than the driver totals, that is a different animal.

From DW's article:

"I hear they're going to come up with a formula for a substitute driver next year when the driver gets hurt. They're going to allow you to have a substitute driver and not lose your driver points. That's a great thing".

I'm kinda torn with this. In other sports, if a player gets hurt, the team can go on. Granted, if its a stud QB or a forward who hits every 3-pointer he shoots, that's one thing. But a sub could come in and they finish the game. (Look at the Tom Brady-Drew Bledsoe situation last year in New England.)

In racing, if a driver gets hurt, the team is out of luck. If a sub comes in, the team doesn't get the points. You can't tell me that a driver is feeling his/her best every weekend and wants to get in the car. They get sick as much as anyone else.

If you a leading the point standings and you are taken out by some bone-headed move and break an arm or leg and can't drive the next weekend, is that fair? No, but that's part of racing I guess. Is it fair to the team that makes sure you have the top equipiment and gets you out of the pits in 13.6 seconds? Nope not at all. Still its part of racing.....

That seems to be the excuse for everything, doesn't it?

;)

I think old DW has finally lost it. I don't like the idea at all. Luck is a part of every sport. Getting hurt is part of every sport. A college QB who gets hurt, can't win the Heisman trophy by putting his numbers and his backups numbers together. I STRONGLY oppose this!

i think they ought to keep it the way it is. if they drive 1 lap, they can sub someone and still get credit. i do believe the sub driver should get personal points thought too.

Well, we all saw how well McMurray did in Sterling's car this year, what if Sterling got credit for McMurray's points and actually won the championship? Talk about an argument about who's a real champ and who's not! ;)

More unending :bs: from the master.

Why not just open the door to all the team owners to bring in specialists for the road courses? Then we hire someone from sprints to drive the short tracks, and some more specialists for the plate races, and some different ones for the speedways, and let the "real" driver of the car just run Charlotte.

DW, do the racing world a favor and SHUT UP. Crawl back into your widdle hole, look at yourself in the mirror, and leave the sane world alone.

LMAO, in between the Jaws bashing is the problem I see with such a provision.

Who decides when a driver needs a sub, and who can the sub be?

My driver hurt his back at the shop and can't get in and out of the car safely. We're gonna bring this guy Schumacher in to run the Glen, OK?

I read this and laughed myself silly. HS, you hit it right on, who decides when the driver needs a sub, and who decides who the sub will be?

DW, quit trying to think, and be quiet. :p

Agreed:p

DW running his mouth again.:)

Many more areas where a solid, good rule change could take place besides driver subs.........start with rule number 1: Get the rules set by Speedweek at Daytona each season and then LEAVE THE RULES ALONE!!:(
